PLAY-PLACE INSIDER                     September  2015

                    Director's Take

THINGS ARE GETTING EXCITING! Lots of forward motion and
major progress being made. The momentum is building (literally)! The energy, enthusiasm and community spirit is infectious. Just picked up an array of selected paint for the entire facility compliments of Pontiac Paint/Norkan; still buzzing from our Gardner-White Charituesday victory in which we were able to decorate our lobby with a beautiful 3 piece leather furniture set; excited about Luciano's Italian Restaurant, Crank's Catering, Ike's Mediteranean Restaurant, Dickey's Barbecue, Freddy's Bar & Grill & Fieldstone Winery's participation in our upcoming "PREVIEW" party October 22nd; and I'm bursting with anticipation at the October 10th arrival of our carousel. And that's just what I can remember off the top of my head. So, yes... we've been busy...but it's a great kind of busy! Stay tuned my friends, the best has yet to come.

Building Constr uction Update

The framing is complete and we've moved on to what they tell me is the "easy part" - drywall and finishing - THANKS to the growing number of Saturday carpenter volunteers and a generous labor donation by Denn-Co and Aristeo Construction. We are extremely grateful for all of the time, hardwork and skillsmanship put into making Play-Place a reality. Special kudos to our regulars" Bob Makowski, Hank Dombrowski, Don Gampp, Dan Moran and Jim Whittenberg who show up each and every week with smiles, crazy carpenter jokes and a "get her done" attitude. THANK YOU!
Play-Place in the Macomb Daily

Play-Place was recently featured in the Macomb Daily newspaper for our Band Together for Autism fundraiser at Freddy's Bar & Grill in Clinton Township. Nicole Tuttle did a wonderful job with the article and we are so grateful for her help in spreading the word about all that is going on here at Play-Place!

We have advanced to the mudding, taping and painting stage of the build out. We need mudders, tapers and painters to help us put the finishing touches on Play-Place. Two hours, three hours or how ever long you're willing to commit will move us that much closer to completing our facility renovations to service the countless families in need.

Fundraising News

 Thank you NAPA
We finally got the opportunity to take our group shot with our NAPA Northern Detroit heroes, who have been committed to the Play-Place cause since November 2012! Their initial donation was $25,000 and their second contribution of $17,556 is helping with the build out of our Parent Bistro and Birthday Bunker.  Our Birthday Bunker will be officially designated as the NAPA Auto Stores and Shops Northern Detroit BDG Birthday Bunker. We proudly name this fantastic Play-Place feature in honor of these fantastic community supporters. Please send your love to NAPA Northern Detroit's direction!

Band Together for Autism Results

Our Band Together for Autism Fundraiser at Freddy's Bar in Clinton Township was an enormous success -- throughout the day we estimate 300 people showed up to support us! Vicky and her daughter Brianna were critical to the success of the event, due to their relentless recruiting of people and donation items. Between 50/50 raffles, a Chinese raffle, drinks for sale, cover charges and more, we raised $1,842. Way to go, everyone!

Our fundraising was not limited to just one event, however! We received incredible gifts from the Macomb/St. Clair Autism Society, Wal-Mart Foundation Community Grants, Kiwanis Sterling Heights High  Noon , Utica/Shelby Kiwanis, Kroger, Royal Oak Optimist Club, Suburban Ford of Sterling Heights, TCF Bank, and IHS Automotive.

MRCC Hammer 9 Carpenters Union held a big golf outing and a portion of the proceeds were donated to Play-Place! MRCC has been in our corner ever since we started construction, and have become strong allies and good friends to the autism community.
