Why People Remain in Pain -- in Spite of Treatment . . .
a
|
Chronic pain conditions commonly co-occur with psychiatric conditions, and when they do, they result in extraordinarily high rates of treatment failure.
On Thursday, June 27, Dr. Gary Kaplan will speak at the Dolley Madison Library about chronic pain and depression from a neurophysiologic perspective.
A new conceptualization, known as "Central Pain Sensitization Syndrome," (CPSS) enables us to understand fibromyalgia, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and possibly many other chronic pain conditions, as mediated by the central nervous system.
Dr. Kaplan will explain how this shift in understanding the mechanism of chronic pain will require treatment strategies to change. To register for this event or learn more, please click here.
