Volunteer spotlight: Norma Turner
Meet Norma Turner. She is a volunteer docent at the Highlands Ranch Mansion. Norma has been a docent since 2013. When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering at the Mansion, she replied, " It's a great opportunity to get out and meet other volunteers. And I learn something new every time I come here." Norma was in the first volunteering group after the renovation of the Mansion.

Norma's favorite room at the Mansion is the west bedroom. " The view from that room is just magnificent. I also love the photo of Joan Phipps in there. It seems to fit the room very well. I would have loved to have that room if I was living here."

Norma earned a degree in history, but ended up with a career in accounting. She retired in 2012.  Norma also loves to travel. She traveled to China in 2005. " It was so beautiful and so different from anywhere I had ever been. The Terracota Warriors were a sight to behold!"

The Mansion is full of history

Waite Phillips purchased the Mansion and surrounding land in 1920 and named it Highland (no s) Ranch after the Highland Hereford cattle he raised here. The name was later changed by a subsequent owner and then renamed Highlands (with an s) Ranch in 1937 by new owner Lawrence Phipps, Jr.
