What to Catch Up On

Finally: 3D Recyclable Printing Filament!

Congrats to the Specialists in the Plastic Additive Manufacturing team for reaching a major milestone! After two years of research, planning, development, and dedication, this sustainability initiative has finally created a spool of 3D printer filament entirely from recycled plastic!

The members of SPAM have come a long way, and their success isn’t just attributed to their dedicated research and development. Networking, pitches, and management were also components to their consistent progress. To see other places where entrepreneurship and environmentalism intersect , check out our feature on the team and co-founders William Amos and Aldrin Lupisan.

New Venture Competition Forges On!
by Zejin Guo

The 2017 Beall New Venture Competition is a business competition open to all UCI students and faculty who have six months to form their own teams and fund their ideas. On March 8, students were invited to attend the fifth workshop about how to create financials when building their pitch decks.

Presenter Chris Baclawski, the founding managing partner for CB Capital Partners, explained how to present financials with the uniqueness that investors looking for, including the lifecycle of a company, the objectives, outline, examples of a business plan, and the link of the income statement, the balance sheet, and cash flow statement.

Mr. Baclawski said, “the investors care most if you have a long term relationship -contract with stores,” so the objective of making a business plan should be setting a direction for a company, capturing the interest of potential venture capital investors, and projecting confidence to potential investors and project value (obtaining sufficient funds to achieve milestones at an acceptable valuation).

The next workshop is on April 5, and will talk about “How to Create and Deliver a Pitch.” If you need more help while working on your project, the ANTrepreneur Center is here for you! Schedule an appointment for a free consultation.
