Protecting environmentally-significant lands in Waukesha County since 1992.
THE LAND LETTER
Dear

Happy Spring!  I love this time of year. Spring ephemerals are blooming, frogs are peeping and birds are migrating. These are just a few reasons why we protect and restore lands in Waukesha County.  What would our community be without these wonders of nature?

Spring also means stewardship of our 33 preserves. Consider volunteering at the Martin's Woods or Hartland Marsh Volunteer Days or at the Friends of Vernon Marsh Golf Outing. See all our events and volunteer days below.  Please contact me at [email protected] if you want to help.

We need your support! We will be investing $150,000 in our preserves to restore native habitats so rare and uncommon plant and wildlife species survive and thrive. WCLC cares for 33 nature preserves, which is a significant responsibility. Consider a donation or membership today!

Thanks,
Cheryl White
Executive Director

PS  I want to thank everyone who came to support us at Good Harvest Market's Earth Day Event.  Additionally, I want to send a big thanks to Good Harvest Market for their generous support!

LeRoy Butler, inventor of the Lambeau Leap, will be golfing with us and having dinner to raise funds for WCLC to acquire land around the Vernon Marsh on Friday, June 2.

The cost is $150 per person for the golf package or $50 per person for dinner only.  The golf package includes a grilled-sandwich lunch, 18-hole green fees, a cart, range balls, a buffet dinner, and a silent & live auction.

There will be prizes, raffles, auctions including signed Packer memorabilia, and the opportunity to golf and eat dinner with Leroy Butler himself!

Annual Meeting honors retiring board members!
On Tuesday, March 14, we gathered at Red Circle Inn & Bistro to celebrate a year of WCLC's accomplishments and pay tribute to retiring Board members Marlin Johnson and Donna Meyer, plus Ellen and Dave Gennrich for all they have done for the organization!   Enjoy the Video.

More memories will be shared at our  25th Anniversary Celebration, Saturday, September 17, 2017.  Make your reservation today!

Bill Volkert, expert birder and frequent guest on The Larry Meiller Show, stunned the crowd with his gorgeous photos from his birding trip around the world.

Property Spotlight: Weiland Preserve

Our 15-acre Weiland Preserve is located in Menomonee Falls just west of Saint Regis Drive.  This preserve contains open prairie, mature wooded areas, and an ephemeral pond. The trails make this a great spot for birding and checking out local plants and wildlife. You might see a digger crayfish, a chorus frog, or a cedar waxwing!

Over this next year, we are working to restore and maintain the Weiland Preserve.

Intern Spotlight:
Brian Englert

Creating accurate maps is essential for our Land Acquisition and Land Management committees, and Brian has not only created maps for these committees, but he has created tutorials and instructions to help all GIS interns create maps in an effective and efficient manner. The skills that he has built at WCLC will prove to help him succeed as he pursues his passions in the future.

“WCLC has given me the opportunity to grow and become a team player and an effective communicator. Here, I have had the opportunity to further strengthen my time management and organizational skills; life skills that I can hold onto forever and be able to apply them towards anything.”

A few of Brian’s other accomplishments include: improving the standard of WCLC maps, created a wide variety of maps for easements, WCLC owned properties, and proposed properties.
