Protecting environmentally-significant lands in Waukesha County for over 24 years.
The Land Letter
Dear

Happy New Year, and thank you for supporting the Waukesha County Land Conservancy!  We are happy to present our 2016 Annual Report, which highlights last year’s accomplishments and how your support was invested. Click on the Annual Report photo on the right to view it!

Over the past year, WCLC has reached 2,800 acres protected by protecting four additional properties, totaling 140 acres! We hope to carry this success into 2017 by protecting 3,000 acres by the year's end.

Now is a great time to renew your WCLC membership or become a member! Your gift will be used to buy some of the most ecological important properties and restore and steward Waukesha County’s last wetlands, woodlands, forests, and natural areas.

Thank you for all that you do for WCLC!

WCLC's Newest Property:
The Steinacker-Shumway Preserve

Thanks to a generous land donation by Bernice Shumway, critical species will be able to thrive in Waukesha County.

Because the 17-acre Steinacker-Shumway Preserve contains beautiful woodlands, species like the great blue heron, least bittern, and butler's garder snake, animals will be able to call the property home for many years to come.

Thanks to the generous donation and life-long commitment to t the environment of people like Bernice Shumway, more that 460 acres of environmentally significant land has been donated to the conservancy to date.

If you have a property that you would like protected in order to allow environmentally significant species to thrive, consider and land donation or conservation easement with WCLC.

To learn more about the property, check out WCLC's 2016 Annual Report by clicking the box above.

The Hyde's beautiful property is a fitting location to host our celebration due to its charming oak opening and oak savannas. The funds raised will be used to restore and steward local lands to ensure long-term health and protection for future generations to enjoy.

Intern Spotlight:
Katie Melendes

Educating the public about WCLC’s mission and education & outreach programs is essential to engage volunteers, and educate the public on WCLC’s accomplishments.

With the foundation that Katie built as a student at Carroll University studying communication and Spanish, she was able to create and implement new marketing standards for WCLC.

This was my first internship, so I was blown away by the amount of responsibilities I was able to take on and the trust that the organization had in me. Being able to use the knowledge that I had gained in the classroom in a real-life setting was very rewarding. The leaders here are a great support system to have, especially just starting out.”

WCLC gives interns important projects that are helping transform the organization.

Some of Katie’s accomplishments include: creating the WCLC's Annual Report, managing marketing responsibilities on social media, creating materials for Picnic on the Prairie, the Annual Meeting, and other events (invitations, save the dates, etc.), designing WCLC’s first eNewsletter, and writing grant proposals and reports.
