Don't be that guy/gal that had a plumbing emergency on Thanksgiving. Read on for some helpful hints!
The Plumbing Edge for November, 2015
Heffner Plumbing Greetings!

It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just a few days away. As I do each year, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all of my customers for their patronage. I am a blessed man in more ways that I can count. Without you, there would be no Heffner Plumbing. From my family to you and yours, thank you!

If you have noticed a change in the format for the newsletter, this is in response to an increased demand for those reading these e-mails on their smart phones. "Lead, follow or get out of the way."

I have included some simple advice this month with the hope that your Thanksgiving will be free of any plumbing problems. Feel free to share this with 50 of your closest friends!  :-)

Don't Stuff Your Disposal Like The Thanksgiving Day Turkey!
Here are a few tips when using your disposal:

1.  Water, water, water- Use plenty of COLD water before, during and after running the disposal.
2.  Moderation-  Feed small amounts of food waste at a time.
3.  When in doubt, throw it out-  Potato and carrot peels, celery or anything fibrous can create a stoppage. If you have to think about whether or not something is going to clog the drain when using your disposal, throw it in the trash.
4.  No pasta-  A plate full of spaghetti may slide easily off the plate and into the sink, but don't count on this getting past the kitchen sink drain!
5.  There is a difference between a clogged drain and a jam-  A clogged drain happens when food has plugged the drain line. A jam is when something has gotten stuck in the grinding chamber.

More helpful hints can be seen on the TV segment that I did with Channel 13's Treeboy several years ago:

Turn The Water Off To The House If Leaving Town
Most people never think about this, but it is important to shut the water off to the house if you are leaving town for the holidays. This is especially critical in the winter time when a failed furnace can cause water lines to freeze and then burst when they thaw out.

Have You Disconnected Your Garden Hose?
It's that time of year when temperatures are dropping below freezing. If you haven't already done, please go ahead and disconnect your garden hoses now to prevent an expensive repair next spring.

Please Don't Call, Write!
As technology and social media continue to change, I now receive service requests via phone, text message, e-mail and Facebook message. My preferred format for service requests is by e-mail since these are easier for me to track and respond to. If there is an emergency, obviously calling the emergency service number is suggested. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
