PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE-BACK DAY - SATURDAY, APRIL 28, 2018, 10 AM - 2 PM

On Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 10 am - 2 pm, the Plymouth Township Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal to 9955 N. Haggerty Road. (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.) The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. You will be asked to remove any personal information, including labels, from drug containers.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines - flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash - both pose potential safety and health hazards.

Contact the Police Department at 734-354-3232 with questions. For more information about the disposal of prescription drugs or about the April 30 Take Back Day event, go to the DEA Office of Diversion Control Website, www.DEATakeback.com

THE PLYMOUTH DISTRICT LIBRARY BUILDING CELEBRATES ITS 20TH BIRTHDAY

Since the 1940s, the Plymouth District Library has served the needs of the community at 223 S. Main; the current building was opened in 1998. Celebrating its 20th birthday, the Plymouth District Library will hold a birthday party on Sunday, April 29, 2018, from 1-3 p.m. Festivities will include refreshments, crafts for children, a trivia contest and a slideshow.

The library's history, available at www.plymouthlibrary.org , indicates that a house sat at its present location on Main Street, serving as the public library since the 1940s. As World War II drew to a close, Mrs. Bessie Dunning and her daughter, Margaret, purchased the house so that library service would continue. Over the next decades, a library building would be constructed on the site. As the community grew in the mid-1990s, it was determined that a new building was needed and the voters of the City of Plymouth and Plymouth Township approved a $7.35 million bond to build the current building. The library staff and materials were moved to an empty Farmer Jack grocery story on S. Main Street for two years, while construction took place. On April 26, 1998, the building was ready and opened to the public.

Over the past twenty years, the library has become the hub of the community, welcoming roughly 1,000 people each day.

GIVE YOUR IRRIGATION SYSTEM A CHECK-UP!

Summer is coming and that means Irrigation Systems will soon be turned back on for watering your lawn. We recommend that you have your system checked out by an expert and determined to be free of leaks or damaged sprinkler heads at the beginning of the season.

Do you know that you can measure the amount of water used by your irrigation systems? Before you run your system, take a read off of the water meter (inside your home) writing down all numbers including the painted on 0. Let your irrigation run through all the cycles as programmed and then take another read off of the water meter. Subtracting these 2 numbers will give you the gallons used by your sprinkler system each time you use it and you can use that information to monitor your system for leaks during the season.
