2016 Atlantic Cup, Class 40 USA 118, NYC
Podiums Aplenty
It's A Bumpy Ride

It was a test of sheer will power for our OBRs as we sent them offshore this past week.  Most learned what the power of the waves and wind can do to a person's stomach, battling the age old malady of sailors: seasickness.  Fortunately for us Chris Mussler, racing aboard Simon Says wrote an article on how to beat it: Read here.

Oakcliff Challenge
Match racing
This Friday through Sunday is the Oakcliff Challenge, one of our coolest events of the year. America's Cup sailor and match race champion David Dellenbaugh will lead the 3-day event, which consists of a day of coaching, a day of fleet racing, and a final  day a Grade 5 match race. Follow all the action on our Twitter and Facebook.

College High Performance Clinic

Coming up on our  calendar, on June 9-12, is the third high performance clinic for college students. Rockstar coaches Sarah Newberry, Mac Agnese, and Richard Feeny will forge the next generation of Olympic class adrenaline hounds. If that sounds like you, sign up now.

Oakcliff Takes Third in Leg 1 of Atlantic Cup

Big congratulations to Oakcliff's own Liz Shaw, who, alongside Team Magenta's Libby Greenhalgh, came in third in the first leg of the Atlantic Cup.  Liz and Libby competed under the Oakcliff banner as the first women's team in the history of this race, receiving 14 points for Leg 1 of the three part race.

Staff member Hobie Pointing and graduate Andrew "OD" O'Donnell will take the helm for leg 2, departing Brooklyn on Saturday.

Standings and more available here.
OBRs Leave the Nest

Last week we trained seven future On Board Reporters (OBRs) with a weeklong intensive program that included presentations by Sailing World's editor Dave Reed, and Volvo Ocean Race OBRs Amory Ross and Matt Knighton.  After the program concluded Thursday, we sent them off to Charleston to practice their new skills on board six of the nine competing Class 40s in the Atlantic Cup, as well as two of three Oakcliff boats racing in the Block Island Race.
Around the Block and Back Again

Also this week, four Oakcliff boats competed in the 71st Block Island Race: two Farr 40s, the Ker 50 Temptation, and the Andrews 68 Simon Says. Both Temptation and Simon Says came in second in class. Simon Says also won the Governors Race East Trophy (best elapsed time in PHRF) while the Farr 40s battled light and shifty winds to come in seventh and eighth. Full results can be found here
Attention all supporters!  Let it be known that there are only two Friday nights left of Classics sailing, and then we switch over to Thursday night Classics sailing! Please note that after sailing we have a BBQ dinner.  To participate in dinner, donate $20 or bring a dish.
