Dear Parents / Guardians, Students, Staff, and Friends of the Sanborn Regional High School Community. Here are your latest important announcements from Sanborn Regional High School:

Class of 2016 Graduation
Congratulations to Our Newest Sanborn Graduates!

Baccalaureate Service

Thank you to all the volunteers from the First Congregational Church of Kingston, the People's United Methodist Church in Fremont, and St. Luke's Parish in Newton for putting together a lovely Baccalaureate service for our students Thursday evening.

Elementary School Graduation Walk

On the morning of their graduation, members of Sanborn Regional High School's Class of 2016 returned to their elementary schools dressed in cap and gowns to retrace the steps of their journey to adulthood. As they walked through the halls of the Ellis, Bakie, and Memorial schools they were greeted with hugs and cheers from both former teachers and current elementary students. The exercise served not only as an opportunity for graduates to say thank you to the teachers who made a difference in their lives but also as an inspiration for our current elementary school students to find their path, give back, and make good choices.

Class Day

At Class Day, students Noah Mailloux and PJ Ross delivered excellent speeches to the crowd. The school received a very special sportsmanship award from the New Hampshire Football Officials Association. Several parents, staff members, and students were honored for their contributions to the success of the Class of 2016. Finally, as a surprise, students Denae Welch and Cody Welch were presented with a gift from the automotive program - a refurbished 2004 Dodge Neon from teachers Rand Duffy and Jack Kelly.

Following Class Day, staff and students were treated by the senior class to a lunch in the cafeteria, and then everyone went to the Auditorium to watch the senior video, created by the Yearbook Staff.

Graduation

At graduation, Grahm Larkham was recognized as Class Essayist (3rd in the class), Karleigh Giguere was recognized as Salutatorian (2nd in the class), and Prudence "P.J." Ross was recognized as Valedictorian (1st in the class).

Three students were recognized for their commitment to join the service:

Timothy King - Army National Guard
Zachary Marcoux - United States Coast Guard
Emma Nofsker - Air National Guard

Student Katie Tessier sang the national anthem and students Karleigh Giguere and Vicky LeBlanc (Class President) gave the student addresses. The band and the chorus both performed. The keynote speaker with Mr. Jonathan Vander Els, Principal of Memorial Elementary School in Newton, NH.

Congratulations to the Class of 2016!

Last Days of School
A Message From Mr. Stack

As the school year begins to unwind, please pay attention to the limited number of days remaining.  With our unique schedule, you may have a differing number of class periods remaining in each of your courses.  As you make plans to complete assessments, tests, reassessments,
and competency recovery plans, please be aware of the dwindling number of class periods remaining.

Please review the two charts, below, one for seniors and one for underclassmen.

In order to provide students with every possible opportunity to obtain full credit for all classes, we are offering a modified class schedule on the last three days of school, June 13-15. On these days, we will run an extended Focused Learning Time (FLT) period from 10:35AM - 2:10PM.

FLT is typically offered as part of our regular schedule each day for 40 minutes and provides an opportunity for students to engage in personalized intervention, extension, and enrichment. During these end-of-year extended FLT periods, t eachers will be available to work with students on projects for competency recovery.  Students will also be able to begin the work on credit recovery courses if needed.

Please understand that attendance at these extended FLT sessions is mandatory for all students not passing a competency in one or more of their courses. These sessions will provide students with the opportunity for teacher supported competency recovery that will not be available over the summer.  If students are not able to make up the competency/credit at the end of the year, they will likely have to repeat the class next school year.

Students who are passing all of their competencies will not be required to stay for these extended focused learning opportunities. Please be aware, however, that bus transportation will only be available at the end of the regular school day at 2:10PM.  Students who wish to leave early must get dismissed.

Your child will be notified by their teacher(s) if they will be required to stay for any and all of the extended FLT sessions. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's grades, please contact your child's teacher(s) at (603) 642-3341.

The schedule for the days at the end of the year will be as follows on the next page.

Please contact the office at (603) 642-3341 if you have any questions about this plan.
Senior Spotlight : Rose Eacho
An Article by Principal Brian M. Stack With Contributions From Several Staff Members

Note: Each week in our newsletter we like to "spotlight" one senior student who makes contributions to our school community both in and out of the classroom. Students who will be spotlighted are interviewed in advance and staff members contribute to each article.

People who know Rose best describe her as a kind and selfless individual who is always looking out for the better of others before that of herself. It should come as no surprise that Rose has long wanted to pursue a career where she will be helping others and giving back to make our world a better place. Rose aspires to be a nurse one day.

In the classroom, Rose is strong, academically. Her teachers describe her as a conscientious student who is always looking to put forth her best work. Business teacher Bob Bryant described Rose as a student in this way: Being new to the school I have not had the pleasure of knowing Rose for very long but you really do not have to know her to see the positive effect she has on other classmates, teachers, and staff all around the building. As for me personally she is a delight in the classroom absorbing information, leading her group, and demonstrating the traits of someone who is focused on the goal and looking for new challenges. Described by her Mom as quiet Rose does not make grand entrances like some other students but when I see her walk into class I realize my day will be better. Noticing her maturity and witnessing her effort I am sure she will excel in her chosen field and be very successful.

Spanish teacher Candice DeAngelis described Rose as a student in this way: When you truly get to know Rose you learn that she is extremely witty and has one of the best sense of humors out there.  I feel so fortunate to have seen this side of her.  In the classroom she is a serious student who learns, comprehends and applies at an amazing rate, like no other.  She is dedicated to the highest success .  Her impeccable attention to detail and care for her work is evident and she continuously exceed expectations.  I am so proud of all she has accomplished over the past four years and am certain that she is going to wow the world with her wit and her brains .

Over the last several years, Rose has been very active in the school's Key Club program, a service organization. She has also volunteered her time with Student Council and the Class Council to plan activities such as Homecoming and Winter Carnival. Most of the class's T-shirt designs for these events were Rose's work.

This fall, Rose will attend the University of Southern Maine where she will study nursing. We have no doubt she will be very successful in this field, and we wish her the very best of luck in her future!

Senior Spotlight : Christian Ehlers
An Article by Principal Brian M. Stack With Contributions From Several Staff Members

Note: Each week in our newsletter we like to "spotlight" one senior student who makes contributions to our school community both in and out of the classroom. Students who will be spotlighted are interviewed in advance and staff members contribute to each article.

Christian has big aspirations in life. He loves working with his hands, and he enjoys working in the area of STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and math). He is a great student, a leader, and a stand-out athlete for Sanborn. His goal is to put all of the skills he has acquired together to pursue a career in engineering after high school.

In the classroom, Christian is a very strong student. His senior load of classes includes college-credit classes in Senior English and Statistics as well as AP Chemistry. His teachers describe him as a student who loves learning and is always looking to improve.

Spanish teacher Candice DeAngelis said this about Christian:
Over the past three years I have had the opportunity to get to know the dedicated and intelligent student Christian Ehlers as well as the goofy, friendly and personable Christian Ehlers.  (How many students have their special "LoterĂa sunglasses" (sunglasses worn during a bingo game) and provide me with a pair!) When I think of Christian and Christian stories I am reminded of why I teach.  I teach for those students who want to learn, who are curious and who at the end of the day are grateful for what I taught them, but I also teach for the relationships, the mentoring and the life lessons.  Christian embodies all of these qualities, he wants to succeed and he is that student that makes the most out of everything provided to him.  He is bound for great things and I am so proud of all of his accomplishments!

Outside of the classroom, Christian is very active in our school's athletic program. He is a member of the school's football, winter track, and spring track program. He is also active in the school's Life of a Student Leadership club, the National Honor Society, and the National Society of High School Scholars. Coach Scott Maxwell described Christian's contributions to the extra-curricular programs as follows: Christian has been a leader and role model for the track program over the past few seasons.  His successes on the track and on the football field are no surprise to anyone who has witnessed his outstanding work ethic.  He lives, eats, breathes, and trains in order to get any advantage he can over his competitors.  He leads by example and also inspires his teammates to push themselves to be their best.  Christian's drive and dedication will serve him well as he moves on to UNH, and I'm excited to see what the future will hold!

After high school, Christian plans to attend the University of New Hampshire to study Engineering. With his grit and determination, we know that he will be successful in life and we wish him the very best of luck in his future!

Sophomore Honors Blog on 9/11
A Message From English Teacher Aaron Cass

This site was created by Aaron Cass' Sophomore English honors students students at Sanborn Regional High School.  It is a collection of student interviews with their family and loved ones who were impacted by the events of September 11th.

They chose this topic because they were only one year old when the attacks occurred and wanted to understand more about that day and its subsequent impact on the world.

Sanborn BudCom Seeks New Member
A Message From Chairperson Annie Collyer

Did You Know?
...there is an open seat on the Sanborn Regional School District (SRSD) Budget Committee (BudCom) to be filled. Please indicate your interest in applying for this position by emailing acollyer@sau17.org

A recently-reelected member-at-large has regretfully resigned for personal reasons. She will be missed, and she leaves an open seat on the Committee. A member-at-large represents both Kingston and Newton on the BudCom, so can live in either town.

The SRSD BudCom reviews the existing budget deeply, learns from both the School Board and the Administration about their educational goals and the costs associated with them, and then prepares and proposes a budget to the community that gives prudent consideration to the needs of the schools and of its citizens. BudCom meets in the School Board room at the High School in Kingston, from 7:30 to 9-9:30 PM on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month, from September to February, as well as during April, May and sometimes June. BudCom members do their due diligence on both existing and proposed budgets on their own time away from the Committee meetings.

For all those interested in this position, please send a brief letter of introduction to ACollyer@sau17.org by Sunday June 19. Your letter will be shared as an introduction with all BudCom members. Public interviews, individually, of each candidate, one after the other, with BudCom members, will be held on Thursday June 23 at 7:30 PM at the Kingston Community Library, Kingston. Following all interviews, BudCom will meet to select the new BudCom member, and Annie will advise you immediately.

A Message From Fremont School District Superintendent Dr. Betsey Cox-Buteau

Dear Fremont Student,

The SAU 83 Strategic Plan requires a survey to be administered to Fremont students now attending Sanborn Regional High School to assist the Fremont School District in improving its program at Ellis School. You will find a URL below that links you to a short questionnaire that will help us in this effort. It will take only a few minutes to complete and we would truly appreciate hearing from you so that we can help those students who follow you to be better prepared for high school.
