POLYTECH STUDENTS
WIN BIG AT SKILLSUSA CHAMPIONSHIP
 
 

The medal count for Polytech totaled 16 following the final day of competition in the NJ State SkillsUSA Championship on April 14. At the main awards ceremony held that evening, five of the Polytech winners secured a spot in the next round of competition by capturing gold medals and qualified for nationals.

CTE FUNDING MOVES FROM SENATE TO ASSEMBLY
 


State action to recruit voter support for Career and Technical Education (CTE) schools has moved from the Senate to the Assembly with minor amendments and overwhelming support. Leaders from Hunterdon County Vocational School District have welcomed info-packed conversations and on-site visits from lawmakers and local business representatives as word spreads about the benefits this bill could bring.

It was a gold-medal finish for all seven competitors from Polytech's Teacher Academy and Early Childhood Education Program at the NJ FCCLA State Leadership Conference, held recently in Cherry Hill, N.J. Six of the seven students won top honors in categories that qualify them for the 2018 National Leadership Conference this summer in Atlanta.

POLYTECH TEAM PLACES THIRD IN NATIONAL AUTO TECH COMPETITION

Polytech seniors Drew Bentley and Matt Marko have made a name for themselves on the competition circuit this year. Following their second-place finish at the Greater Lehigh Valley Auto Dealers Association event, the duo placed third at the National Automotive Technical Competition, held April 2-4 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York. NJ CAR selected Drew and Matt to represent the state of New Jersey in this national competition, and their third-place finish is the best yet for an NJ CAR team.

MATT GROEL & AUSTIN MAKARICK APRIL'S OUTSTANDING STUDENTS

Congratulations to two of Polytech's outstanding Energy Technology II students who are being recognized for their hard work and dependability. Instructor Charles Lachner said Matt and Austin are always at the top of their game, whether that translates to getting good grades or taking the lead with a class project. 


ADULT & CONTINUING EDUCATION'S DENTAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM HELPS STUDENTS DISCOVER A PASSION AND A PATHWAY TO CAREER SUCCESS 

Many alumni of Adult & Continuing Education's Dental Assistant Program have gone on to successful careers in the field, from managing the office of an oral surgeon to becoming a hygienist or going on to dental school. Yet, few initially envisioned a future in dentistry. The short, but focused 32-session Dental Assistant Program helped them test the waters without too much of a time - or financial - investment.

STUDENTS CAN STILL ENROLL IN SOME POLYTECH HS PROGRAMS

Polytech High School's admission process has hit high gear following a March 1 goal to get applications into the pipeline for consideration. But a few programs - notably new roll-outs - have openings for students who missed that milestone. Programs that haven't hit capacity include Auto Body Collision Repair, Commercial Arts, and three programs that will make their debut in the fall.

CONSTRUCTION STUDENTS FLEX THEIR SKILLS TO BUILD ANOTHER K9 KENNEL

Another dog serving his community has a custom-made home, thanks to students from Polytech High School's Construction Science program. They designed, built, and painted a sheltered area with attached running space for McGinty, the newest K9 officer of the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office.

POLYTECH DELIVERS COMPLETED SOLAR OVEN TO HOLLAND TOWNSHIP SCHOOL

At Holland Township School, sunshine and true spring weather will bring the smell of flowers blooming and another sweet scent - cookies baking. That's because the solar oven - a project partnering Holland Township fourth-graders with Polytech students - is complete. Holland Township enrichment teacher Stephanie Bacskai looks to celebrate the accomplishment with batches upon batches of chocolate chip cookies and sugar cookies.

SUMMER EXCITE PROGRAM IS AN INVESTMENT IN YOUR TEEN'S FUTURE

Polytech Career and Technical School, a magnet for high schoolers interested in learning job-focused skills, will open its doors to younger students for a week of workshops designed for exploration. Polytech's EXCITE program offers just-try-it opportunities in graphic design, health care, auto maintenance and refinishing, cooking, creative arts, and more.

AUTOMOTIVE STUDENTS PREPARE TO FIRE UP KIT CAR

Polytech automotive students are closer to completing the kit car they have been building with support from a $30,000 grant from the Ingersoll Rand Charitable Foundation. The students recently lowered the engine into the hot rod's frame, a major step - or more like a leap - toward getting the car up and running.

HCVSD EDUCATION FOUNDATION AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO FIVE DISTRICT STUDENTS

The Hunterdon County Vocational School District Education Foundation has awarded five $1,000 scholarships - one to a student from each sending district - in memory of Ella Haver. Haver was a lifelong supporter of academics in the county and pioneer in community activism. She was a former president of the Jennie M. Haver Scholarship Fund.

COLORING IN HOPE

The National Art Honor Society at Hunterdon County Polytech will sponsor an event titled Coloring in Hope from 6-8:30 pm on May 17. This event is to raise awareness and offer help and hope to those suffering from depression, anxiety, and addiction. There will be numerous activities to partake in throughout the night.  Professionals will be on hand to talk about these topics and answer any questions. Participants will have opportunities to create art of their own and relax while working with an art therapist and yoga instructor. Members of the National Art Honor Society will sell artwork to raise money to help support their cause. This event is perfect for teens and their parents, but all community members are welcome to come for a night of fun while learning about an important cause.
