Hello to all from Laura!

This has to be one of my most favorite times of the year. I know, that sounds like a song but it is true. I love the crisp air, the lights of Christmas trees and the music! Oh, my, the music!

To start with, our next playing session will be this coming Friday, December 19 at 7:30 p.m.  All instruments are welcome...even those buzzie capped reed kind and strings. I love the interesting mix of texture and sound. You will not need the folders except to fill it with all the free music I am going to bring. My Christmas present to all of you!

We are going to read some of my most favorite of all favorite holiday tunes ranging from In Epiphania Domini by Dufay to a Stan Davis arrangement of Santa Claus is Coming to Town. There is so much exciting music written for this season that it will be hard to read through all of it. I hope you all will find one of your favorites in the offerings.

As always, if you have any questions about the music or PRS in general, please do not hesitate to click on my name and shoot me an email. If I cannot help you, there is a Board of terrific PRS members to help you.

Announcing a new NOVICE PRS Group

Do our Friday night PRS sessions make you nervous about keeping up?  Do you feel like the music gets too hard too fast?  Have you stopped coming to PRS because you were frustrated or feeling in over your head?  We have good news for you!  Starting January 23rd, I will be offering a novice-level break out group during the second hour of our regular Friday night PRS sessions.  It will be at TaborSpace in a smaller room nearby starting at 8pm.

My intention is to slow things down and work on troubleshooting common difficulties with our instrument as well as exercises to improve our rhythm, tone production, and ensemble playing skills.  We'll work on some of the same music the larger group is playing, but also some of our very own.  If you are new to C or F fingerings, want to learn to play alto up, or just want easier music to play, this group is for you!  Please do contact me if you have questions or comments, I'd love to know if you were planning on coming!

TaborSpace, Our New Venue!

Well, we asked, you answered and we are moving! Starting with our January 23, 2015 playing session, PRS will be calling TaborSpace its new home!  It is inside the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church at 5441 SE Belmont St. in Portland.  Several of the Board members have gone to TaborSpace to check out rooms, lighting, sound and parking. We believe it is going to be a great place to come together and make music.

There has also been requests to move away from Friday nights. We hear you loud and clear. It was decided to make one change at a time. For the rest of the PRS 2014-15 year, we will stay on Friday nights. We have been in contact with TaborSpace for alternative nights, so the request is not forgotten. Should you have strong opinions one way or the other, please feel free to contact the Board and let them know your thoughts. We will probably do another survey sometime in the Spring.

Thank you very much to everyone that answered our short and sweet survey.
