The Exchange
The Presidential Precinct's Quarterly Newsletter

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Exchange, The Presidential Precinct's new quarterly newsletter that highlights our work as we support future leaders of the world through the collaboration of some of the brightest minds and most historic resources in the United States.

Earlier this month, The Presidential Precinct was reaffirmed by the State Department to host the 2015 Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders (YALI)The Mandela Washington Fellowship is the White House's flagship program launched to support young African leaders as they spur growth and prosperity, strengthen democratic governance, and enhance peace and security across Africa. This Summer we hosted 25 African leaders for a 6-week civic leadership program followed by the Presidential Town Hall Meeting and the U.S. Africa Leaders Summit. This was an unprecedented opportunity to strengthen ties between our organization, our partners and the world's fastest-growing region.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship links to our goal of providing a physical and virtual destination for international dialogue, critical thinking and collaborative problem solving.

Our unique consortium unites two of America's premier universities: the University of Virginia and the College of William and Mary; the homes of three Founding Fathers of the United States: Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, James Madison's Montpelier and James Monroe's Ash-Lawn Highland; as well as Morven, home of Jefferson's confidant and secretary, William Short.

Emmanuel Ndlovu, a 2014 YALI Fellow from Zimbabwe said "The Presidential Precinct helped me better understand American history and philosophy through the lens of its founding fathers, build a powerful network of connections from the public and private sector, and provided exposure to some of the best universities in the United States. The Precinct's YALI program provided clarity on my essential question and helped me realize the critical role I must play in the advancement of democracy in my home country."

It's stories from fellows like Emmanuel that excite me about The Presidential Precinct's offerings. I am humbled by the extraordinary leaders we host and the support we have from our partner institutions and contributors. I look forward to sharing our results and successes as we continue to host the next generation of global leaders.

Warmest regards,
