Ministry Friends Newsletter
September 2016

Dear Mission Friend,

We are so excited about the opportunities God has opened up for us to speak in the next two months!

We have fourteen different presentations to give from September 17 th to October 22 nd ! How awesome is our God to hear our prayer and provide these events to further His mission for the often unreached people group - families with children who have special needs.
Would you pray?

  1. That we would reach hearts of those who will work with children with special needs or any kind of challenges and that God would open their eyes and hearts to be effective leaders for Him.
  2. That we would be an encouragement, show compassion, and be His vessels to empower parents so that they may be better champions for their children.
  3. That funding would become available so that we can buy a professional sign for our ministry table and to create booklets and materials that would be helpful to these folks.
  4. That all our travel needs would be met.
  5. And for traveling mercies.

Here is our schedule. Prayers coveted and appreciated for all of these events:
Saturday, September 17 th - Awana Conference - Woodbridge, Virginia - We will be delivering the following four presentations:

Title: What do I tell the Parents?
Theme: Communicating with parents whose children struggle
Description: So, you have a child in your ministry who struggles with either behavior or maturity or keeping up with the other children. You want to share your observations with the parents but you are concerned it will not be received well. We'll talk about how to be strategic and full of compassion and grace and to set up a good relationship with the parents for the sake of the child.

What about the children who have challenges?
Description: When working with children, there is almost always at least one child in the group who gives you a run for your money. This child may: be enthusiastically disruptive, struggle with anger, not able to keep up with the other children, have difficulty with self-control, or struggle with following directions. These children may or may not have an official diagnosis (ADHD, Autism, or any syndrome). We want to help you understand this child a little better. We also want to give you tips and strategies to not only survive this child in the group but also reach for the deeper goals for all.

Correction Ideas that Touch the Heart - Workshop
Description: This workshop is great for Parents and for Ministry Workers. This is just one part of a seminar entitled "Cooperation, Consequences, and Keeping Your Sanity" and written by Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller of the National Center for Biblical Parenting. We are trained presenters and represent NCBP in this workshop. We will talk about the concept that correction is part of the job of parenting and part of the job of vibrant ministry. But...you want to do it in a way to build relationships not tear them down. This is about a heart based approach to correction.

Equipping You as a Volunteer to help Kids Who Struggle
Description: You are eager to serve but you sometimes feel like you don't know what to do with the children in the group who are having a hard time cooperating or keeping up. Maybe you are just looking for fresh ideas to add to your toolbox. You have come to the right place. Come for practical ideas for you and your volunteers in your ministry.

Tom and Julie will be working at the Prayer and Outreach Table at this Craft and Vendor Fair - being available to pray with families and offer support.
