Laws Passed!
2 Pro-Life Bills Pass Louisiana Legislature

The Louisiana Legislature passed two key pieces of pro-life legislation in the 2017 Legislative Session. One bill has been signed by Gov. John Bel Edwards, and the other one awaits his signature.

SB 128, authored by Sen. John Milkovich (D-Shreveport) and carried on the House floor by Rep. Kenny Cox (D-Natchitoches), adds an additional layer of protection to prevent the sale of the dismembered bodies of babies after abortion. The bill passed both the House and Senate unanimously. SB 128 awaits the governor's signature.

SB 111, authored by Sen. Beth Mizell (R-Franklinton) and carried on the House floor by Rep. Frank Hoffman (R-West Monroe), passed the House 93-0 and passed the Senate 29-6. It was signed into law by Gov. Edwards on June 12.

That bill, the Screening for Exploitation of Minors Before Abortion Act, enhances parental consent requirements before an abortion to prevent fraudulent identification of adults claiming to be the girl's parents and strengthens screening for coerced abortion, crimes against the child, or sex trafficking during judicial bypass proceedings.

Benjamin Clapper, executive director of Louisiana Right to Life, said: "These bills strengthen our body of pro-life laws. SB 111 ensures greater protection of minor girls from predatory threats, including those trafficking these young women in commercial sexual exploitation. SB 128 takes a proactive step to ensure organizations like Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast cannot cut up the bodies of aborted babies for profit, especially since this same organization has performed these activities in Texas."

Dorinda Bordlee, Senior Counsel of the Bioethics Defense Fund, consulted on both pieces of legislation.

Pray for Steve!
Please Pray for Our Friend Rep. Steve Scalise

It is imperative that we all take time today to stop what we are doing and offer up some prayers for our friend, Congressman Steve Scalise.  We understand he is still in critical condition in a DC-area hospital.

You can take this request to pray for Steve as a command from our Commander-In-Chief! After visiting Steve last night, President Trump said, " Just left hospital. Rep. Steve Scalise, one of the truly great people, is in very tough shape - but he is a real fighter. Pray for Steve!"

We also encourage you to send his office a note of support. Tell them that you are praying for Steve and his family.

Click here to email Congressman Scalise's Whip Office.

Not only is Steve a good man, husband, father, and Congressman, but he is a long time pro-life leader.  Especially recently, he has been at the forefront of all Congressional efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, stop late abortions in America, protect conscience rights, and much more. I can tell you that Steve makes the pro-life cause a priority in his leadership role.

We pray for Steve's quick recovery.  Lord, please heal Steve and bring him home!

Victory Celebrated!

Victory Celebration is Last Event at Bossier Address

About 50 people gathered under the hot sun Saturday to celebrate the closure of the Bossier City Medical Suite, one of two abortion facilities in North Louisiana.

The celebration was organized by the Shreveport-Bossier 40 Days for Life group. Chris Davis, who leads the Shreveport-Bossier group, called it the "Last Event Ever" they would hold on the sidewalk in front of the facility at 1505 Doctors Drive, where sidewalk counselors and prayer warriors have been a fixture for many years.

"The closing of the abortion facility in Bossier is without a doubt the greatest thing to happen to the Shreveport-Bossier pro-life community ever!" Davis said. "Tremendous gratitude goes out to everyone who has taken part in this effort in every way. Special thanks go out to all of the sidewalk ministries and pregnancy resource centers throughout our area.

"Our PRCs now outnumber abortion facilities at least four to one. When combined with all of the pro-life groups in our area, we outnumber them a dozen or more to one!"

40 Days for Life President Shawn Carney and Lauren Muzyka, executive director of Sidewalk Advocates for Life, spoke at the celebration.

60 Pro-Life Students, Leaders Trained at PLI

The 2017 PULSE Leadership Institute was a success! 60 high school students, college students, and adult leaders grew in Pro-Life leadership and fellowship June 4-9 at the Bishop E. Tracy Center in Baton Rouge.

These leaders not only discussed abortion, but also adoption, euthanasia, physician assisted suicide, disability discrimination in abortion, pro-life feminism and heroism, Planned Parenthood and real women's resources, third party reproduction, and pro-life legislation. They heard from several experts, including Bobby Schindler, Terri Schiavo's brother, and Brandon Buell, founder of Jaxon Strong. They also were inspired throughout the week by leading modern pro-life organizations such as Rehumanize International and New Wave Feminists.

Grace Hoffpauir of Sunset and Liliana Pagan of Lafayette talk survey a student on the LSU campus.
PLI does not simply consist of educational sessions but includes hands-on activism that strives to combine the student's head and heart on the issues. The week began with a call to compassion while reflecting on the testimonies of speakers who were directly impacted by abortion. The students had a thorough Pro-Life Persuasion course and immediately practiced persuasion skills by surveying and engaging random students on LSU's campus. They witnessed and prayed at the Delta Women's Clinic, the abortion facility in Baton Rouge, and toured the adjacent Women's New Life Center and witnessed a live ultrasound, learning about all of the pro-life, pro-woman resources the agency can offer to a woman in crisis! The last day included a visit to a nursing home and breakout sessions on concrete activism for their high school or college campuses and home communities.

Bobby Schindler talks with students about the death of his sister, Terri Schindler Schivo.

When the students visit the Capitol, we typically incorporate time for each student to give a one-minute "testimony" while in "committee." However, we did not expect their testimonies to be so beautiful! They articulated their pro-life positions intelligently, and many gave their personal stories, leaving nearly the whole room in tears all throughout our time there!

Throughout the week the students grew in teamwork by actively participating in small group discussion, building and performing skits, and a trip to Laser Tag. These activities encouraged students to form lasting pro-life bonds. Each expressed commitment to start or grow their high school pro-life club, volunteer their time at a pregnancy center or nursing home, and/or meet with their regional PULSE Team throughout the year to further grow in pro-life education and activism.

We are so grateful for these students who came as representatives from their church or school to become trained and return home with abundant pro-life knowledge and resources, fostering the next generation of pro-life leaders!
