NO COMMUNITY SAFE FROM
HUMAN SEX TRAFFICKING

Waynette Bridwell loves her four grandchildren and the "ton" of nieces and nephews in her family.  And she feels it's her responsibility as a former nurse to alert them to the perils of human trafficking. And not only the young people of her family, but everyone who lives near her "backwoodsy" area of Zanesville, Ohio.  Read the story.

OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH

The chances are high that you or a loved one has been on the receiving end of an abusive act by an intimate partner. Why? Because the National Domestic Violence Hotline says that nearly three in 10 women and 1 in 10 men in the United States have reported rape, physical violence and/or stalking by a partner. Learn about how to help.

LISTENING TO MR. ROGERS' MOM

Mr. Rogers, the kind man with the sweater (knitted by his mother) who hosted a children's TV show for so many years, said that when he was small and something frightened him, his mom would tell him to look for the helpers, that there are always people helping. TRANSITIONS ARE A PART OF LIFE

Transitions are a part of life. In a fast-paced culture, it can even seem like that's the only way of life. Change. Change. Change. Even things that we may have thought of as unchanging have changed: landscapes, borders, leadership, ways of life over time. Read the Cafe article.
THE FEAST OF ST. FRANCIS

In October, the church observes the Feast of St. Francis, who had a special love for God's creatures. Many congregations celebrate this feast day with a special blessing of pets and animals. Read about how one congregation celebrates the legacy of St. Francis in an excerpt from Gather's October issue here.
