Dear Hennepin Community:
The season of Christmas is upon us and we look forward to the gifts of the new year. Each season brings with it both joy and sorrow. Today I write to bring you news of the passing of two of Hennepin's community, lived in joy and now held in our sorrow.
Betty Lou Lundeen passed away unexpectedly on December 22, 2017. Betty was a retired United Methodist minister and brought her passion for social justice, inclusivity and ecumenism to our community. She and her husband Dar were active at Sacred Journey, in Seeds of Celebration and through the Annual Conference in COSROW and Reconciling ministries. Betty also was a longtime leader of Grandparent's Camp at Koinonia. A celebration of Betty's life will be Saturday, January 6th at 10:30am in the sanctuary.
Longtime member of Hennepin, Hank Garwick, died on December 27th just shy of his 95th birthday which would have been celebrated on January 1st. Hank's commitment to social justice and global ministry has been a part of the fabric of Hennepin for years as he helped to lead outreach to India and Haiti and was instrumental in the creation of Steeple People ministries. His wisdom and passion has been such a gift to this church and he will be sorely missed by our faith community and his family. A service to celebrate his life will be held February 16th at 11:00am in the sanctuary.
As you go about these first cold days of the new year, please hold these families in the warmth of your prayers and offer gratitude for these two amazing lives.
In blessings and peace,
Sally Howell Johnson
