A Potosi Story

  On Sunday I retraced the Dan Anderson-Little route and preached at Hillside church at 8:30 a.m., followed by Potosi at 11:30 a.m.. Before leaving for Texas, Dan preached at both congregations almost every Sunday! When I arrived at Potosi, I was informed of the history of the church and its work in the community. The church was established in 1832 and the current building was commissioned in 1907 and built in 1909. The architect of the church is John A. Lankford (1847 – 1946). Lankford would become the first African American Architect in the state of Virginia and Washington DC. He was known as the “Dean of black architecture,” and the

     It is an amazing thing that Americans moved west from the thirteen colonies so rapidly, even before the Revolution. The Presbyterian Church had a challenge keeping up with the migration to organize churches and to follow up with the creation of presbyteries and synods. The experience of Missouri and Illinois was typical. Already by 1800, Americans outnumbered the French in Missouri and, surely also, in nearby Illinois.

PRE-Big Tent Event

25th Anniversary Celebration and Dinner

   On Wednesday, July 5, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Trinity Presbyterian Church, located at 6800 Washington Ave., St. Louis, 63130,  the Presbyterian Association on Science, Technology and the Christian Faith will celebrate 25 years.

    Featured Speakers include Rev. Elinor Stock, who will present: A Declaration of Interdependence, a well as Dr. R. Lynn Bondurant, former director of NASA Office of Education Programs, and Rev. Dr. James B. Miller, PASTCF President.

   This event is free and open to the public with the exception of dinner.  There is a reservation fee of $20 payable at the dinner.  Please make your dinner reservation no later than Friday, July 1st at 843-566-2909 or email  [email protected].

 Blessing Belleville Banquet
  Ally Dyer, Blessing Belleville organizer, is seeking sponsorships and support for the  second annual Blessing Belleville Banquet, and she hopes you plan to attend! 

    All profits from this banquet will go to support Beacon Ministries, Caritas Family Solutions, and Project Compassion.  All three local charities do a great deal in Belleville to help families and children in crisis.

  Extended Pulpit Supply ”Plus” Needed

    A local Presbyterian Church (just outside St. Louis County) is seeking a pastor who is willing to serve on a part-time basis for a limited period of time.    

   The church has a membership of less than 70, with 25-30 in regular attendance each Sunday.  The amount of time per week is flexible; ideally the candidate would be willing to put in 19 hours.  This would include sermon preparation, coming to the office one day a week, handling any visitations, and Sunday morning preparation.  To apply contact Sharon Cardwell of the PTCC committee at: [email protected]

Food Pantry Needs Volunteers

   Winger Food Pantry is looking for volunteers to help on Wednesdays: one shift would run from 11:00am-1:00pm and involve processing Operation Food Search items; the other shift would involve helping clients carry bags from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Children’s Ministry Assistant
    First Presbyterian, Kirkwood is seeking a Children’s Ministry Assistant will work closely with the Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministries, the Director of Music Ministries, the Children and Family Committee of Session, volunteers, and staff to facilitate the faith formation of the children of the First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood, MO.
