World Premiere Commission, Comfort Food, by
Timothy Andres to be Performed at Thanksgiving!
Timothy Andres will be Here for his Premiere! | |
Timothy Andres (b. 1985, Palo Alto, CA) is a composer and pianist. He grew up in rural Connecticut and lives in Brooklyn, NY. His compositions meld a classical-music upbringing with diverse interests in the natural world, graphic arts, and technology. He has been praised for his "acute ear" by the New York Times' Anthony Tommasini and "stubborn nose" by the New Yorker's Alex Ross.
An avid pianist from an early age, Timothy (Timo for short) performs widely, focusing especially on music by his contemporaries. "New music cannot be intimidating when played with this degree of skill and zest," proclaimed Boston Globe critic Richard Dyer. Andres recently played solo concerts at Strathmore Performing Arts Center and on the Wordless Music Series at Miller Theater (Columbia University, NY), and performed his solo piano piece, How can I live in your world of ideas?, on the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Green Umbrella series; the Los Angeles Times' Mark Swed pronounced it "irresistible".
Be sure to come and hear Timothy speak about Comfort Food at his pre-concert talk in the Atrium of The Cathedral of St. John before the Thanksgiving Concert at 3:15pm!

The Milwaukee Choral Artists (MCA) is Wisconsin's premier professional choral ensemble, and one of only five professional women's choral ensembles in the country. With its signature lush sound, MCA brings a distinctive repertory of choral and vocal masterworks-including well-known pieces, new music, seldom-performed works, and music of diverse cultures and historical periods-to concert audiences throughout the region. Regularly hailed for its imaginative programming, the group has quickly established itself in the mainstream of professional music making both within and beyond Milwaukee. Milwaukee Choral Artists enjoys regular appearances with Present Music, Milwaukee's internationally acclaimed contemporary music ensemble. Equally well versed in early music, the Milwaukee Choral Artists has performed twice with the internationally acclaimed The Boston Camerata, presented by Early Music Now (the Midwest's renowned early music presenting organization.) In May 2009, MCA was heard once again on the Early Music Now stage when they joined San Francisco's professional female vocal ensemble KITKA in a collaborative concert. The Milwaukee Choral Artists performs three regular season concerts each year at historic venues throughout the Milwaukee area. Committed to presenting music from diverse cultures, the ensemble has performed music in twenty-eight languages from more than forty world cultures since its inception.

The Rubens Quartet-whose members come from the Netherlands, Israel and the US-has become one of the finest young quartets of its generation since being founded in 2000. The quartet has impressed audiences throughout its home country of the Netherlands and abroad, and is praised for its warm sound, remarkable sense of rhythm and harmony, and ability to communicate with an audience. | Through its rich knowledge of string quartet culture, the mission of the Rubens Quartet is to combine the old with the new, by interpreting lesser known works of the past and present and placing them alongside the great standards of the quartet repertoire. The quartet plays in dance choreographies, connects literature and music, and initiates music theatre performances. In its concert programs, the ensemble regularly pairs classic with contemporary (Haydn with Dutilleux, Shostakovich with Roukens), and is dedicated to promoting new music, having worked closely with such composers as György Kurtág, Louis Andriessen and Sofia Gubaidulina.
Rubens Quartet will be joined by Stefanie Jacob, pianist of the Conservatory's resident ensemblePrometheus Trio.
The concert program includes: Ludwig van Beethoven: String Quartet Op. 18, No. 3 César Franck: Piano Quintet in f minor Joey Roukens: Visions at Sea |
