Presentation ECC Weekly Update 12/1/2017
Our Lady of the Presentation
Early Childhood Center
ECC Families,

Good afternoon I hope everyone is having a great weekend. This week we will begin our Christmas program practices at the church. Please make sure your child is present if possible. We only have 5 practice dates before our performances nights. Your child's teacher should be able to tell you when their class is practicing. This Sunday begins our Advent journey. We will come together to light a new Advent candle each week. We will light our first candle this Wednesday with Fr. Tom. He will bless our Advent wreath and talk with the children about the importance of Advent and how we are getting ready to welcome Jesus. The last day to bring in donations for our Project Star adoptions will be Thursday morning. All donations will be picked up by Catholic Charities Thursday afternoon. The center will be closed this Friday in observance of the Immaculate Conception holy day. I encourage you to take some time this holiday season amid all of the hustle and bustle to pray together as a family. We have provided some Advent resources in the front office next to the Christmas tree. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Closed Friday, December 8th
Our center will be closed on Friday, December 8th in observance of the Immaculate Conception Holy Day.
Project Shining Star Donations
We are very happy to be teaming up with Catholic Charities again this year to kick off the holidays with our annual Project Shining Star. Project Shining Star is a Catholic Charities program which provides for children and families in need. This year the ECC has adopted several children. Each teacher has created a way for their families to pick an item to purchase as a gift for their classroom's adopted child.  Please remember all gifts will be collected in the classroom, and should not be wrapped. All items for your child's classroom are due Thursday morning, December 7.A Catholic Charities rep will pick the donations up that afternoon. We appreciate you sharing your gifts during this Christmas season!
Christmas Programs
When we return from Thanksgiving break our classrooms will start practicing their Christmas songs everyday! Actually I am sure many of them have already been practicing. We will also have practices over in the church some mornings and your child's teacher will give you a heads up on those days. The dates for our programs are Tuesday, December 12th for the part-time classes and Thursday, December 14th for our full-time classes. The program is in the church and will begin at 7:00 PM both nights.

Christmas Schedules
During the holidays we all look forward to spending time with our families. Many of our staff will be taking time off during the holidays. In order to make sure we always have the most appropriate staffing it is helpful for us to know if their are students taking time off with their families. We have placed holiday schedule sheets outside of each classroom. Please take some time to fill in your attendance for each day indicated so we can better plan for the use of our substitute staff.
Staff Christmas Gifts
We will not be doing a main collection this year for staff Christmas gifts. Feel free to purchase a gift for your child's teacher or other staff members as a class or on your own. Gifts are completely optional and not expected.

Fighting Germs & Sickness
We need your help with fighting sickness and germs going around our school. This is the time of the year when sicknesses start popping up and getting spread through entire classrooms! We understand sometimes symptoms don't present themselves until your child has been sent to school, however we have more and more students coming to school when they are obviously not feeling well. We don't like sending children home sick, however we are trying to prevent infecting their classmates as well. Below you will find our illness policy as outlined in our handbook. In addition to a fever if a student vomits more than once or has diarrhea they will be sent home.

We request that your child remain at home if he/she is feeling ill, has an unusual rash or diarrhea, is experiencing pain or tiredness that prohibits them from participating in a normal school day. If a child has an axillary temperature of 100.5 the parent will be asked to take the child home. If a fever occurs suddenly, the temperature will be rechecked after a 30- minute rest period. If the fever is still present, the parent will be asked to take the child home. If your child contracts a contagious childhood disease, please let us know so that we may communicate the outbreak to our other families. Please notify the preschool by phone if your child will be absent. Otherwise after 2 consecutive absences, the teacher will contact the family as to the health of their child. If a child becomes ill while at school they will be brought to the office area until the family arrives to take the child home. Presentation ECC is not a sick child care program. Sick children may not return to school until they have been symptom free and on medication for at least 24/48 hours. If you have a question about whether your child may attend or return to school with regards to sickness it is encouraged to contact Presentation ECC office staff before bringing your child to the center.
