Presentation of Mary Academy  ePathways
April 2015
PMA friends and family,

Spring is here and graduation is right around the corner.  We cannot believe another year is nearing its end.  But there are still a few months left, packed with exciting happenings, such as the Spring Concert and Art Show, Prom, and of course, Graduation.     Take a look at some of our events in this edition of Presentation of Mary Academy ePathways!

9th Annual Legacy Gala and Auction
On Friday, April 17 over 200 members of the PMA community gathered at the Atkinson Resort and Country Club for a night of honoring, bidding, and merriment at the 9th Annual Legacy Gala and Auction.  It was a wonderful time, as we raised money for PMA students, in addition to recognizing outstanding members of the staff, alumni, and community.

There was never a dull moment during the evening with games such as a wine toss and the incredible silent auction.  The live auction sparked many bidding wars. The PMA select chorus performed and the evening ended with a slide show honoring Mr. Stephen Stankus, who celebrated his 45th Anniversary with PMA this year.  It was very exciting to celebrate this wonderful milestone with Mr. Stankus.

Legacy honorees included Dennis Keefe, Karen Miller, Judith Giarrusso, '64, and Diane Cormier Martin, '86.  In addition to Mr. Stankus, staff celebrating anniversaries were Laurice Hajjar, Liz Powers, and Bob True.

Outstanding Achievments
Three PMA Students Accepted to the University of Notre Dame

Three PMA seniors were granted acceptance into the University of Notre Dame's class of 2019.  Sebastian Lopez, Jinelfry Rodriguez, and Maria Splaine, who all rank in the top of their class, were recently notified of this prestigious accomplishment.

Acceptance into the University of Notre Dame is highly competitive and to have not only one, but three graduates granted admission, is outstanding. With a graduating class of only fifty three students, this is a magnificent triumph and speaks volumes about our school community.

PMA Guidance Counselor, Judith Winters, works with each senior individually and assists them with the often times challenging undertaking of the college application process. "I could not be more proud of the perseverance and dedication that Jinny, Sebastian, and Maria have exhibited through their four years at PMA.  Their hard work has paid off, culminating in these remarkable acceptances.  Some tough decisions lie ahead!"

Methuen/Salem Rotary Honorees

Congratulations to the Methuen/Salem Rotary Teacher of the Year, PMA Science Teacher, Mr. Robert True.   Also, to the Student of the year, PMA junior, Robert Pauley and Rotary scholarship winner Amanda Morin, '15.
They were honored at the Methuen/Salem Rotary Celebration of Achievement Banquet on Tuesday, April 14 at the Pelham Inn.

Junior Retreat
On Monday, June 13 th  the junior class experienced a relaxing retreat at Rolling Ridge Retreat Center in North Andover.    A day of faith, fellowship, and fun was enjoyed by all!   Students were given the opportunity to  enhance their relationship with Our Lord and their fellow classmates who accompany them on their faith journey.  The theme of the retreat was from Proverbs 3:56 "
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, on your own intelligence do not rely; In all your ways be mindful of him, and he will make straight your paths."  The juniors participated in team building activities and listened to a couple talks that revolved around learning to put more trust in God and each other.  One student reflected, "I learned a lot about God's infinite love for us, and how He uses us to do His work here on earth.  We need to be the ones who accept His call and embrace His love for us."

Grandparents Mass

PMA usually celebrates Grandparents Day during Catholic Schools Week in January, but with the overwhelming amount of snow we had this winter, thanks to Mother Nature, we inevitably had to cancel.  We scheduled a special celebratory Mass on Friday, April 17 to share with Grandparents and special guests led by Father Brian Cummings, SSE and Saint Michael Campus Ministry of Saint Michael's College in Vermont.  It was a spirited and lively Mass, enjoyed by all, and definitely worth the wait.
