Presentation of Mary Academy ePathways

September 2014
September greetings PMA friends and family,

Is it really already September?  PMA was bustling with activity all summer long,  and things have been even busier since our 222 students have joined us for what promises to be a great year!  Read on to learn about some of the great PMA happenings on campus and in our community!  We are pleased to present you with the latest edition of Presentation of Mary Academy ePathways!

Around Campus
Welcome Freshmen
Eager to be challenged, ready to form friendships, and poised to DISCOVER who they are, PMA's Class of 2018 has arrived!   This spirited group of 56 young men and women spent their first official day of high school at Camp Otter in Salem, NH.  Here they engaged in team building games and challenge course activities.  By the end of the day, all were assured that they are ready to take on all that high school has to offer.

PMA's Marian Hall, now in its third year as a dormitory, is the home to thirty-five of our international boarding students. This year, we are honored to host students from eight countries, particularly Italy, Spain, Mexico, Thailand, China, Japan, Vietnam, and South Korea. Members of the freshman class were recently invited to an ice-cream social hosted by the residents of Marian Hall.  More activities will be planned throughout the year.

Welcome New Faculty
We are pleased to announce the addition of four new

Introducing

Liesl MacGregor

Science & History Departments

Mrs. MacGregor brings a wealth of practical experience to her lessons in PMA's classrooms and labs.   After graduating from  Susquehanna University with a BS in Bio-Psych, she began her career as a high school teacher only to return to the classroom herself, earning a BS in nursing from Northeastern University.  She later accepted a position at Brigham and Women's Hospital where she conducted endocrine research, until the classroom called once again, this time to teach Environmental Science and Biology at North Andover High School.  For the past nine years, she has been a member of PMA's Science and History departments, teaching Biology, Advanced Placement Biology, and Psychology.  One of the many things that Mrs. MacGregor has come to appreciate about the PMA experience is the  "way [PMA ] students respect each other's differences and learn from one another. " Mrs. MacGregor and her husband David make their home in North Andover, MA.  They are the very proud parents of Christopher, who is living in New York City as he attends graduate school; Caitlyn, a senior at Salve Regina University pursing a degree in special education; Colin, a sophomore at Case Western University studying environmental engineering; and Cathryn, a senior and avid volleyball player at Notre Dame Academy.   Mrs. MacGregor was able to combine her love of family and travel this summer by visiting her relatives in Quebec, her birthplace, and explore the sights of Scotland while Caitlyn completed a study abroad program.
