MHFest Becomes Ironwood's Memorial Bash!
The Miracles Happen Festival started 10 years ago as a grand opening celebration of the Miracle Lodge, a 27-room, fully accessible, retreat and conference center built specifically for the National Wheelchair Sports Camp. This inaugural event grew into a yearly music and family festival that included a key tribute to those who have served our country. W
hile the Miracle Lodge was created with the wheelchair program in mind, it is now also used for Operation Welcome Home military programs, camps for adults with cognitive disabilities, and new programs for families of children with autism.
In response to the growing the need in the community for these programs and due to the timing and cost of the festival, the board and staff at Ironwood felt a need to make a big change. Since the Miracle Lodge was dedicated to serve those facing special challenges, we want to re-dedicate the resources spent on the festival (people and space) to the same mission. At the same time, we know that many have grown to love this fun family and music celebration.
With this in mind, we are announcing
Ironwood's Memorial Bash to be held on
Saturday, May 26th. Memorial Day weekend has always been a special time at Ironwood with many campers and extra activities and food. This event will provide an opportunity for families to continue enjoying fun activities, great music, and delicious food, while also showcasing our summer programs. Since it is Memorial Day weekend, we want to also maintain the salute to military as a key element. In addition, many local or regional bands can still provide high-quality family and Christian music without the cost of nationally-recognized performers.
You may have some questions about the new event...
What replaces the week in the summer dedicated to the festival? Gaining a week in July allows us to expand programs with an expanded week-long Operation Welcome Home family camp (July 20-27) in partnership with an organization called Camp Gratitude. We will also add a week of Journey Day Camp and an additional Beginner Horse Camp.
How much will it cost? By significantly reducing the cost, we can provide an affordable family event while raising money to help fund programs for military families, youth, and special needs. The event will have free admission with tickets to purchase for activities and food.
What will be new this year? You can look forward to a huge BBQ dinner, a bean bag tournament, and maybe even a stick pony rodeo!
What if I loved volunteering for the festival? We will still need several volunteers to put on this event, so please let us know if you can help.
What about those that want to stay the weekend? While the big bash is on Saturday, we will have some other fun activities throughout the weekend and Sunday morning worship. We encourage people to come and stay with us throughout the weekend.
Where can I find out more information?
