ALA Community
As we wrap up 2015, I appreciate all the time and energy that member volunteers give us to support the ALA's mission to help members sell more lighting and ceiling fan products. The drive and energy that you bring to the ALA is appreciated, and is a testament to the success of each of your individual businesses. If you would like to participate on a committee in 2016, please complete the committee volunteer form and email it to my attention. I also want to recognize that many members have difficulty serving on a committee, task force or board because of the time commitment it requires. That is OK. Volunteerism comes in many shapes and forms.
ALA Promotion
Your promotion of ALA is another way in which you can give back to the association. The ALA offers various resources to help you drive consumer sales. We encourage you to place the
ALA logo on your advertising materials, website, shipping boxes, etc. That is just one of the many ways your membership provides added value to your brand. Our focus is on providing a variety of promotional tools for you to utilize as is or to customize for your particular business. It's easy to connect with your customers through the
ALA blog,
Bright Ideas e-newsletter,
Lighting magazine,
ALA Newsfeed, and the new
"Lighting Trends" video.
ALA Annual Conference
The ALA Annual Conference in Huntington Beach, Calif., recently concluded with 651 attendees, an all-time record high attendance. I want to thank all members who participated and made the conference a very successful industry event. We incorporated many changes to this year's conference to increase member networking and sharing of ideas.
I also want to thank the many sponsors that help the ALA run a very professional event and allow for reasonable conference registration rates. We received many high marks from members. The ALA conference app was utilized by many and helped members manage their time while gaining industry connections through the social media portion. Our 2016 conference will be Sept. 25-27 at the El Conquistador Resort in Puerto Rico. To receive our early-bird discounted registration rate, please download the 2016 registration form now.
NRCan
We will meet with the Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) staff on Dec. 10 in Ottawa, Canada, to discuss pending and future lighting standards/harmonization issues. Several ALA Canadian members will participate in the meeting, including Fred Fennell, ALA Canadian Government Affairs chairman, and Clark Linstone, ALA U.S. Government Affairs chairman. The meeting will help develop and broaden the ALA's relationship with the new NRCan staff.
With the holiday season approaching, I wish everyone a prosperous and joyous conclusion to the 2015 year.
Sincerely,
Eric Jacobson, CAE
