City Council Confirms Three Reappointments
Westland, MI - On Monday, July 18 at the Westland City Council meeting, the council approved Mayor William R. Wild's reappointment of  Robert Dunajski and Sam Durante to the Planning Commission and Scott Catallo to the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority.

The Planning Commission is a nine member board that is appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council.  The planning commission meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall.  They review site plan approvals, special land use requests, rezoning requests, land division requests, mechanical amusement licenses, street and alley vacations and more.  

Robert Dunajski has been a Westland resident since 2007.  He lives with his wife Miranda and has worked at Alta Equipment Company as a Regional Operations Manager for 14 years.  He has also served on the Zoning Board of Appeals and was appointed to the Planning Commission in 2012.  

Sam Durante is a 20 year Westland resident who retired 9 years ago from Terminex as a sales associate.  He also served as Director of Environmental Services at Sani  Hospital. He has served on the Planning Commission since 2010 and will serve another three year term.  

The Brownfield Redevelopment Authority is an eleven member board that is appointed by the Mayor and subject to the approval of the city Council.  The board meets following the submission of a Brownfield Redevelopment Plan.  The Authority facilitates business and property owners in redeveloping brownfield sites throughout Westland.

Scott Catallo has lived in Westland for over 20 years.  He is an architect at NORR  and is married with three children.  He also serves on the Economic Development Corporation and the Tax Increment Finance Authority.  He was first appointed to the Brownfield Authority in 2010 and will serve another three years with this appointment. 

"These gentlemen have worked hard on their respective boards and commissions during their previous terms and I look forward to continuing to work with them throughout their upcoming terms," commented Mayor Wild.  "They bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience from their unique fields and will continue to be great assets to the community they serve."

The City is served by two public school districts; Wayne-Westland Community Schools serving 12,000 youth was recently named one of the Best Schools in Michigan by WXYZ-TV and is the proud recipient of 14 Golden Apple and two Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School Awards.  Livonia Public Schools, educating nearly 15,000 students, is proud of their MEAP/MME scores that exceed state averages and the District has also earned Golden Apple and Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School Awards.
