Westland Municipal Golf Course Opens for the Season - Spring has officially arrived and that means the time has finally come for the re-opening of the Westland Municipal Golf Course.  The Course will open on Saturday, April 22 at 8:00 a.m.  The course is located at 500 S. Merriman just south of Cherry Hill.  Call (734)721-6660 with any questions or to reserve a tee time.  For the month of April the golf course will be running some great specials.  All rounds, pro-shop purchases and concessions are 20% for the remainder of the month.  The course is open 7 days a week.

Budget Study Session -   For the next two Saturday mornings there will be special Study Sessions in the City Council Conference Room of City Hall.  The first will take place on Saturday. April 16.  The public is invited to attend these meetings where the topic of discussion will be the Proposed Departmental Budgets for the next fiscal year.  The meeting begins at 9:00 a.m.  To see the agenda, please click here

2016 Earth Day Celebration -  The City of Westland will be holding its 2016 Earth Day Celebration Event on Earth Day, Friday, April 22  at 10:00 am at the newly renovated Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center (JBCVC) located at 32150 Dorsey Street.   At the event, Mayor Wild will be leading a groundbreaking on new baseball diamonds to be constructed at the JBCVC. He will also be highlighting a newly created butterfly garden in the JBCVC library courtyard and will be announcing the City's involvement in a new nationwide program, the Mayor's Monarch Pledge.   Mayor Wild will also be presenting the coveted Mission:Green Eco-Award to Simple Recycling for their curbside recycling program, Wayne Metro Community Action for their employees' work on creating the new butterfly garden at the Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center and one surprise recipient.


Friday Night Dinner and a Movie -  It's time once again for Dinner and a Movie at the Westland Public Library on Friday, April 22.  This month's meal is being offered by Golden Chopsticks.  Those who purchase dinner tickets in advance at the Library will be treated to a buffet style dinner with soft drinks and a light dessert included.  The doors open for the meal at 6:30 p.m. and the free movie begins at 7:00 p.m.  This month's film is "The Big Short" starring Steve Carrel, Christian Bale and Ryan Gosling and is Rated R.  This critically acclaimed picture won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay and was nominated for 4 others, including Best Picture.  You can get tickets for Dinner & a Movie by visiting the Reference Desk at the Library.


ISI Figure Skating -  The Mike Modano Ice Arena will be showcasing some of the very talented figure skaters that train out of the arena on Wildwood just south of Hunter.  The ISI Figure Skating Program will be performing their annual Spring Ice Show this weekend with shows on Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23 in the evening and a matinee performance on Sunday, April 24 afternoon.  Tickets are available at the door, so please come out and support our local skaters and see the tremendous talent that will be on display.  

Budget Study Session - Saturday, April 23 will be the second and final Open Study Session regarding the City of Westland's proposed budget for the next fiscal year.  The public is invited to attend this meeting which takes place in the Council Chambers of Westland City Hall.  The meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m.  You can view the agenda by clicking here.
