Compost Season Begins -  Spring is just around the corner which means compost season is almost here.  Compost collection will begin on Monday, April 4 this year.  Compost is garden waste, grass clippings, hay/straw, leaves, pruning debris, bushes/shrubs and tree branches.  Branches are to be cut into small bundles and ties with rope or twine.  You may put out up to ten bundles per week.  You may also use compost bags or garbage cans for compost disposal.  The limit for compost collection is ten compost bags or five garbage cans weighing less than 50 lbs.  Compost is picked up the same day as regular trash by a separate truck.  Your compost should be separated from your regular household trash by 4 ft.  Mixed compost and trash will not be picked up.

Detroit Tigers Opening Day -  The Boys of Summer are returning home.  The Detroit Tigers home opener is Friday, April 8 and thousands of die hard fans will be down at Comerica Park to cheer them on.  For those that couldn't get tickets or didn't want to chance the weather, the Friendship Center has a fun alternative for seniors.  They will be showing the game on their big screen and will be serving authentic stadium food to add to the experience.  You can purchase tickets at the front desk or by calling 734-722-7628.

Friday Night Glow Skate -   The Mike Modano Ice Arena is still open for the season and Friday Night Glow Skate is back.  Glow skate will run every Friday from 7 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. and will cost $8 for kids and $9 for adults for residents.  The cost is 50 cents more for non-resident.  One glow in the dark accessory will be given will the purchase of admittance to glow skate.  The Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.

Three Cities Art Exhibit - On Sunday, April 10 you will have the chance to view some beautiful locally produced artwork by visiting the Three Cities Art Club exhibit at the Westland Library.  Watercolors, sketches, photographs, and many other mediums will be on display from Friday through Sunday afternoon.  Patrons will have the opportunity to vote for their favorites and purchase some of the pieces.  There will be a special reception on Sunday afternoon where awards will be presented to the winning artists.  For more information, please call 313-234-3939.
