Distinguished  Young Women Scholarship Program - The Distinguished Young Women of Wayne-Westland Scholarship Program will be holding the 51st Annual Scholarship Program on Friday, March 9 at Wayne Memorial High School, located at 3001 4th St. at 7:00 p.m.  Fifteen contestants from Wayne, Westland and Inkster will compete for thousands of dollars in college scholarships and the chance to represent our communities at local events and at the state finals.   This scholarship program is based on academic scholastics, leadership, physical fitness, and talent. Tickets are available at the door, so please come out and support these amazing young women on Friday evening.

Easter Bunny Comes to Westland Shopping Center - Easter is coming up soon and that means that the Easter Bunny will be at the Westland Shopping Center.  The Easter Village will be set up in the East Court of the Mall starting Saturday, March 10.  He will be there to visit with all of the little kids and pose for pictures.  To find out specific times, please visit the mall's website at www.westlandcenter.com

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:

Friends of the Library
  • The Friends of the Library will meet on Tuesday, March 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Westland Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway.
Library Board
  • The meeting of the Library Board will take place on Wednesday, March 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Westland Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway.
Hockey Night in Westland -  Mayor William R. Wild, along with his Westland Wild Wings, are once again getting ready to lace up their skates to challenge the Detroit Red Wing Alumni in the 9th Annual Hockey Night in Westland charity event.     The event will be held on ice on Friday, March 16 at the Mike Modano Ice Arena located at 6210 N. Wildwood in Westland. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and  at 6:15 p.m. our very own Westland Hockey Association Mini-Mites and Mites will take the ice to show off their skills.  The alumni pre-game fun will start at 7:00 p.m. and the puck drop will take place at 7:30 p.m.  This event has turned into one of the communities most anticipated events. Tickets for the event are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 12.  (Kids 5 and under are free).    Tickets are available for purchase at the Mayor's office, the Mike Modano Ice arena and online at    https://westland.ticketleap.com/hockeynightwestland/details  

Youth Sport Classes -  Keep your kids active this winter with  youth sport classes . The Livonia Family YMCA is offering soccer and basketball classes from Tuesday, February 27 through Wednesday, April 11 . Kids ages 3-7 can participate. Classes will be held at the  Jefferson Barnes Community Vitality Center  in the gymnasium, located at 32150 Dorsey St.
