Career Fair -  One great way to find jobs is going to local job fairs.  There is one coming up this week that will take place at the Marriott Hotel in Pontiac, located at 3600 Centerpointe Parkway.  They will be interviewing on the spot on Thursday, January 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for many industries including engineering, manufacturing, healthcare, sales, and many others.  They are also hosting free workshops throughout the day.  For complete details, visit the website by clicking here


Phone, Mail and E-Scams Presentation -  Many of us have heard the horror stories, and maybe you or someone you know has been a victim of scam artists.  Scams come in all different shapes and sizes. It's important to learn the warning signs, as well as things you can do to protect yourself.  Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette will be in town on Thursday, January 28 to give a presentation at the Friendship Center on Phone, Mail and E-Scams beginning at 1:30 p.m.  Seniors are the most targeted demographic in the country right now for these scammers.  Mr. Schuette will give specific examples of current scams and will point out some telltale signs to be wary of.  This is a free seminar and the public is invited to come and learn how to keep calm and not be fooled in these types of situations.  For a list of all of the Attorney General's appearances on this topic, please click here

Zumba Fitness at the Library -  O n Friday, January 29 you can join in the very popular Zumba Fitness program.  For one hour, starting at 11:15 a.m., you will be dancing to Latin rhythms with easy-to-follow moves led by a certified instructor.  This free class is open to adults and teens and you don't need any dance experience to have a great time and get an excellent workout.  This class happens every week at the same time in the meeting rooms of the Library.

Friday Night Glow Skate - The Mike Modano Ice Arena has re-opened for the season and Friday Night Glow Skate is back.  Glow skate will run every Friday from 7 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. and will cost $8 for kids and $9 for adults for residents.  The cost is 50 cents more for non-resident.  One glow in the dark accessory will be given will the purchase of admittance to glow skate.  The Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.

Inspire Theater Presents "The Lady Pirates of Captain Bree" -  If you are looking for something different this weekend that is fun for the whole family, consider visiting the Westland Center for the Arts.  The Inspire Theater will be performing their new show this weekend.  "The Lady Pirates of Captain Bree" is a fun musical with a host of hysterical characters.  Tickets for this family friendly show are available now here or you can get them at the studio located at 33455 Warren Road.  The shows are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 29 and Saturday, January 30; and there is also a 3:00 p.m. matinee show on Sunday, January 31.


Be Proud! Be Responsible! Workshop -  On Saturday, January 30, the Westland Youth Assistance Program will be presenting a "Be Proud, Be Responsible" program for area teens.  This free program gives young people the information they need to make good choices when it comes to their relationships.  The program begins at 10:00 a.m. and students attending get a free lunch, special prize, and all of the required materials.  This event will take place at the Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center, located at 32150 Dorsey St.
