Buddy Up -  The City of Westland is kicking off the 4th year of the popular, life changing, 8-week  "Buddy Up" Program which has been part of Mayor William R. Wild's "Passport to a Healthy City" initiative which started in 2012.   Unfortunately today 35% of Americans or 78 million people in the U.S. are considered obese.   Research has shown that "buddying up" can be the difference between failure and success with any weight loss plan.   If you missed the "Buddy Up" Kick Off on March 11, you can still join by attending the first meeting on Saturday, March 12 at 9:00 a.m.  in the banquet room at City Hall.  P articipants will meet every Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. for 8 weeks and will be guided and encouraged through the program by their team captain.  This year the program will include the popular 6-week triathlon where you have 6 weeks to complete a triathlon's worth of biking, running and swimming.  Brand new this year is an optional weight loss challenge where the top three participants with the most weight loss will win a prize.   Registration is limited to the first 250 paid registrants.  You can get more information or register by clicking here.

Mornings with the Mayor - Mayor William R. Wild is taking his monthly "Mornings with the Mayor" on the road in 2016. Mornings with the Mayor helps residents connect with Mayor Wild and his administration about matters of importance regarding City services or programs and events. This month's "Mornings with the Mayor" will take place on Tuesday, March 15 and will take place at the Westland Police Station, located at 36701 Ford Rd.  This month's meeting is sponsored by North Brothers Ford. We will be raffling off five $10 gift gas cards. Entry into the raffle is a water donation to the city of Flint.  Afterwards, there will be tours provided to residents can see all the great improvements being made to the Westland Police Station.


Detroit Red Wing Alumni Game - The annual Wild's Wings versus Red Wings Alumni Hockey Game will take place on Friday, March 18, 2016 when the doors of the Mike Modano Ice Arena opening at 5:30 p.m.   Once again, Mayor Wild will be lacing up his skates with the Westland Wild Wings as they take on a team from the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association.  Former Red Wing greats like Darren McCarty and John Ogrodnick will entertain fans at the game while raising money for improvements to the Arena.  There will also be raffles with great prizes and fun for the whole family.  You can get tickets at City Hall, the Arena, and North Brothers Ford.  You can also order tickets online by going to clicking here.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids.

Friday Night Dinner and a Movie -  The Westland Library hosts Friday Night Movies each week and focuses on award winning films and those that are book adaptations.  Once a month they expand the evening to include dinner that is offered from a local restaurant.  This week, on Friday, March 18 Toarmina's Pizza is offering pizza, salad, cheese bread and dessert for those that buy dinner tickets in advance.  The meals will be delivered to the Library at 6:00 p.m. with the movie starting at 7.  This week's feature is "Room."  This film is rated R and earned a Best Actress Oscar for Brie Larson.  You can get tickets and more information by calling the Library at 734-326-6123.

Easter Egg-Stravaganza -  Saturday, March 19 is going to be great day for the little ones in our All American City.  The Westland Area Jaycees are hosting their annual Easter Egg-Stravaganza at the Wayne -Ford Civic League beginning at 10:00 a.m.  For just two dollars per child, kids can visit the Easter Bunny, make crafts, join an Easter Egg Hunt and much, much more.  The fun starts with a pancake breakfast at 10:00 a.m. with the other fun activities starting at 10:30 a.m.  Get all of the information by visiting the Jaycees website at www.westlandareajaycees.org
