Wild about the Holiday on Small Biz Saturday

Shoppers in Westland Get a Chance to Win Gift Cards from Local Businesses

Westland, MI (November 18, 2014) --- In an effort to keep dollars in the local economy, Mayor Bill Wild will give gift cards to winning residents at local businesses in Westland's Shop and Dine District.

Mayor Wild is among leaders across the country promoting local shopping this holiday season.

On Small Business Saturday November 29, Westland Mayor Bill Wild will visit various businesses and raffle off a variety of gift cards ranging from $10 to $50  from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

"Statistics show that for every $100 you spend locally, $66 stays in the local community," said Mayor Wild. "That means your dollars are helping to build parks, libraries and improve fire and police departments."

Small Business Saturday is an American shopping holiday held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year. First observed on November 27, 2010, it is a counterpart to Black Friday and CyberMonday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores respectively.

By contrast, Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local.
