Dear Editor,
The Mary Sano Studio of Duncan Dancing presents the sixteenth annual Dionysian Festival, May 25th and 26th, 2013.
This yearly event celebrates the anniversary of Isadora Duncan's birth, the progenitor of modern dance who was born in San Francisco on May 26, 1877. Mary Sano, one of the foremost interpreters of the Duncan legacy, will perform original Duncan repertoire(Chopin, Gluck and Strauss) with her group with classical pianist Mutsuko Dohi. This occasion marks the first collaboration between Sano and Dohi, who will also be premiering new choreography to an excerpt from Scriabin's Preludes.
Our special guest for this year's festival is classical pianist Mutsuko Dohi, an accomplished artist who has studied and won prestigious acclaim both in Russia and her native Japan. Pianist/songwriter Tony Chapman from Los Angeles and Hideo Shakuhachi (bamboo flute) player from Japan will be joining Mary Sano and her Duncan Dancers to expand their new work, 'In Nature'. Centering on themes of the environment and human connectedness to it, the group has been developing this improvisational work since 2012 with an emphasis on fragility and coexistence.
