Cynthia's Challenge - A 24 Hour Ski-A-Thon
March 21-22, 2014

Together as a community we can make a difference in Cynthia's life.

EAST MADISON, NH, FEBRUARY 26, 2014 - Friday, March 21st at 4pm through Saturday, March 22nd 4pm, King Pine at Purity Spring Resort is sponsoring a 24 hour Ski-A-Thon called Cynthia's Challenge with proceeds to benefit one of King Pine's own, Cynthia Verrill. Cynthia's Challenge has been created to raise $35,000 - the cost of a service dog for Cynthia. With a service dog, seizures can be detected before the onset which will allow Cynthia to live life more independently.

Registration is $99 per person and includes dinner, breakfast and lunch, a 24 hour lift ticket, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages throughout the event, as well as a customized t-shirt, games and memories to last a lifetime. Register a team of four and the 5th (team captain) is free.  Ages 8 & under are also free - with a participating adult - King Pine asks that kids have friends and family to sponsor them either for a flat rate, or per ski run. Raffle tickets are available for $10 and you can be entered to win prizes such as helmets, gift cards, lift tickets, skis and ski getaway packages. A slopeside lodging package at King Pine is available through Purity Spring Resort for the weekend of the event.

Local community businesses have contributed to the event through donations of food, raffle items and pulling teams together. "We have watched Cynthia grow up skiing at King Pine and are excited to see such an outpouring of support for this event from the local community" stated Bob Hoyt, President of Purity Spring Resort and the Hoyt Family of Businesses, "from the moment I met Cynthia, her personality just captured me and supporting this event will make a huge impact on her quality of life".

11 year old Cynthia is the daughter of Stacie and Kevin Verrill of Effingham.  Stacie works at the Guest Service Desk in the winter and at Danforth Bay Camping & RV Resort in the summer.  Kevin has worked lifts for King Pine in the past as well as security at Danforth Bay Camping & RV Resort. Cynthia was born with Tuberous sclerosis--also called tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). TSC is a rare, multi-system genetic disease that causes benign tumors to grow in the brain and on other vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, eyes, lungs, and skin. It usually affects the central nervous system and results in a combination of symptoms including seizures, developmental delay, behavioral problems, skin abnormalities, and kidney disease. There is no cure for TSC, although treatment is available for a number of the symptoms.
