Press Release: IDGOP Chairman Steve Yates Announces Intent to Step Down As Party Chair

BOISE, ID - Idaho Republican Party Chairman Steve Yates announced today that he intends to step down as State Party Chairman effective April 24th, 2017.

"It is my intention to step down as State Party Chair effective April 24th, 2017. At that time, our 1st Vice Chair Mike Mathews will assume the role of Acting Chairman until a replacement is elected at our IDGOP Summer Meeting on July 22nd in Coeur d'Alene," said Yates. "At which time I am confident our State Central Committee will select a Chair who will continue to lead a strong state party through the very important election cycle of 2018."

Yates continued, "While this transition has been on my mind for some time, in recent weeks many supporters have asked me to consider running for another office and I have decided to give that serious consideration. I felt it necessary for the integrity of the office of Chair to take this step at this time."

"I am committed to remaining an engaged and helpful former Chair, to ensure a smooth transition, and to support the continued success of our party and its new chairman." Steve Yates said, "I care deeply about our Party and I am proud of the work we have all accomplished together. Serving as your State Chairman has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and I look forward to serving the great state of Idaho, hopefully in another capacity."
