MOWSOS Partners with RSNC
Walnut Creek, CA December 17, 2015
The SCAN Foundation has awarded a $45,000 grant to Rehabilitation Services of Northern California (RSNC) to work in partnership with Contra Costa's Advisory Council on Aging (ACOA) and Meals on Wheels Senior Outreach Services (MOWSOS). This grant will enable RSNC to continue working with the ACOA in a statewide movement to transform the system of care so that all Californians can age with dignity, choice and independence. The two-year grant will enable RSNC and the ACOA to bring on a new partner, MOWSOS, in this movement and see far greater impact in their ability to educate and activate our community.
The Foundation's grant will specifically enable RSNC and MOWSOS to create a local policy platform to increase access to a system of coordinated long-term support services in Contra Costa, activate consumers to be advocates, and increase the participation in this statewide effort. Elaine Clark, CEO of MOWSOS, said, "Collaboration is essential if we are going to meet the growing needs of the senior population. We are thrilled to be working with RSNC and the ACOA." This grant will better position Contra Costa to be able to meet the needs of the rapidly growing aging demographic.
"We believe that actively engaging local stakeholders who champion the needs of their communities is critical in shaping the delivery system of the future," says Dr. Bruce Chernof, president and CEO of The SCAN Foundation. "We are pleased to partner with the Contra Costa Advisory Council on Aging as part of the larger Community of Constituents Initiative that brings stakeholders from across California together on key issues affecting older adults and persons with disabilities."
Debbie Toth, CEO of RSNC, was honored by the Foundation's vote of confidence in RSNC and their support in adding a new partner. "We are so pleased to have the opportunity to continue our work with the Advisory Council on Aging and beyond excited to formalize a partnership with Meals on Wheels Senior Outreach Services. We feel so privileged to have the opportunity to better serve the seniors and individuals with disabilities in our local community and state."
Meals on Wheels and Senior Outreach Services is a full-service nonprofit organization dedicated since 1968 to helping seniors live independently and with dignity. Based in Walnut Creek, the agency serves seniors all across Contra Costa County. More information can be found at http://www.mowsos.org.
