Subterranean Books Events Calendar |
|
Hi Everybody,
Thanks for sticking with us.
What follows is a brief rundown of some of our upcoming events. The calendar down the right side will link to everything currently scheduled, though.
We're still working on better copy (Scott, I'm lookin' at you) that will more thoroughly flesh out what these new programs are. I will readily admit that I AM NOT A WRITER. Description does not flow easily from me. That said, please read on...
Thanks,
Kelly

Pressing Destiny: Washington University Printmakers Move West!
Opening Reception
THIS Thursday, March 17, 6-8 pm
at Subterranean
Pressing Destiny: Washington University Printmakers Move West! is an investigation into the work of several Wash U printmaking alumni who followed their own pressing destiny to move west.
This portfolio is a rich sampling of how the westward journey of these artists manifests in the work and how a community that began in St. Louis over several decades, is now thriving up and down the west coast in universities, studios, and community centers.
The artists in this portfolio share a similar history of Washington University and west coast print traditions, yet their work finds an original and contemporary state of balance between the two.
These artists demonstrate a dynamic working balance between these two geographic and cultural forces.
Pressing Destiny is being exhibited to coincide with the SGC International Conference being held at Washington University. Here is a list of the exhibits that will be up throughout the Loop.
The exhibit will be up through Thursday, April 14. |
BYOB (Bring Your Own Book [and beer])
Wednesday, March 23, 7pm at Subterranean
Join us on the SECOND WEDNESDAY of each month (except this month--Mar 23 is NOT the 2nd Wednesday this month) for BYOB (Bring Your Own Book [and beer]) with Scott Phillips and Paul Friswold.
Jealous of Thursday morning story time, Scott and Paul decided we needed one for adults. So bring any selection you'd like to and read to the crowd.
Please email or call the store to sign up to read.
Each evening will have about 5 readers. We suspect beer will be much more common than milk.

Technology Petting Zoo
Thursday, March 24, 7pm at
Left Bank Books --CWE
399 N. Euclid
Staff and customers from Subterranean Books, Left Bank Books, Pudd'nhead Books, and Main Street Books will explain how various eReaders work (their features and limitations) and show attendees how to download Google eBooks from indie bookstore websites, proving that it's possible to be techno savvy while supporting a local bookstore at the same time.
We'll demonstrate with a Sony Reader, iPad, Android, iPhone and Nook Color and this event is free and open to the public.
Technology Petting Zoo is sponsored by the St. Louis Independent Bookstore Alliance, an organization of local independent bookstores.
The Alliance's mission is to highlight the wide variety of independent bookstores in the St. Louis area; to support the creative and literary efforts in our city; to share our love of knowledge and storytelling; to not only keep up with the times, but to stay ahead of the curve so that our customers get the best service, the best events, and books that fill their souls; and to advocate on issues that affect independent bookstores.
To join the movement, visit St. Louis Indie Bookstore Alliance via the website, Facebook, or Twitter. |

Akashic Books' Nina Revoyr Reads/Signs "Wingshooters"
Thursday, April 7, 7pm at Subterranean
You have no idea how excited I am about this. I just finished Wingshooters and it's fantastic.
MICHELLE LEBEAU, THE CHILD OF A WHITE AMERICAN FATHER, and a Japanese mother, lives with her grandparents in Deerhorn, Wisconsin--a small town that had been entirely white before her arrival. Rejected and bullied, Michelle spends her time reading, avoiding fights, and roaming the countryside with her English springer spaniel, Brett. She idolizes her grandfather, Charlie LeBeau, an expert hunter and former minor league baseball player who is one of the town's most respected men. Charlie strongly disapproves of his son's marriage to Michelle's mother but dotes on his only grandchild, whom he calls Mikey.
