Scheduling Preventative Versus "Problem" Visits
Check your insurance plan for coverage

By: Monica Duvall, M.D.

At Rittenhouse Internal Medicine, we recognize that the health care and medical insurance industries can be confusing to navigate for many of our patients. Our goal is to make the process of seeing a provider as smooth and as simple as possible. Part of that process is ensuring that you, our patients, are aware of the different appointment types that we offer so that the proper appointment is scheduled to fit your needs at a given time. We also recommend reviewing your insurance policy, so that you can be aware of how/if the different appointment types are co vered ahead of time to avoid surprises (and large bills!).

"Annual Physicals", also called "Annual Well Visits", "Routine Medical Exams", "Health Maintenance Exams" or "General Checkups", are preventive health exams that are typically covered by an insurance provider no more than once a year.

S pring into Allergy Season

By: Allison Andrews,
Nurse Practitioner

Spring means flower buds and blooming trees, and if you are one of the millions of people who have seasonal allergies, it also means sneezing, congestion, runny nose and other bothersome symptoms. These are simple strategies to keep your seasonal allergies under control:

  • Check your local TV, radio station or internet for pollen forecast and current pollen levels. Limit your outdoor activities when pollen counts are high.
  • Keep your doors and windows closed during the day and at night to keep pollen from drifting into your house.
  • If you have been outside all day, pollen can accumulate on your hair, skin and clothing. Be sure to remove your shoes at the door and change out of the clothes you have worn outside. Shower to rinse pollen from your hair and skin.
  • Do not hang your laundry outside to dry, always machine wash. Pollen can stick to your sheets and towels.
  • Before you go to bed, rinse out your nasal passages with a neti-pot or saline nasal irrigation.
  • If high pollen counts are in the forecast, start taking allergy medications before your symptoms start!
