Sixth and seventh graders are invited to attend Preview Day from 7:35 to 10:10 a.m. at Ray-Pec East and Ray-Pec South middle schools. Students will meet teachers, learn their way around the school, practice opening lockers, and have a snack.

Solar Eclipse to take place on Aug. 21
On Aug. 21, 2017, for the first time since 1918, a solar eclipse will be visible on a path across the United States. Our District will be just south of the path of totality for the solar eclipse.

For Raymore and Peculiar, the eclipse will start about 11:41 a.m., with the peak eclipse set to occur at 1:04 p.m., when the moon obscures 99.5 percent of the sun. The eclipse will end at approximately 2:36 p.m.

As always, safety is our top concern. School is not in session on Aug. 21, but some students will have just returned home from Preview Day (see information above.) Please review safety guidelines with your children.

Looking directly at the sun is unsafe. The only safe way to look at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as "eclipse glasses". Per NASA, homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun.
