Price Families,

Price Elementary focuses on operating as an organization that focuses on continuously improving to best meet the needs of our students, families and employees. To do so, it is vital that we collect feedback from you, our stakeholders. In October we distributed a survey to our parents and community in an effort to determine areas of celebration for our building and our district as a whole, and also to identify areas that need improving.

Over the last few weeks we have been examining the results from this survey. Below you will see those aforementioned celebrations and opportunities for improvement (OFI). Also identified are action steps we have created for each opportunity for improvement in an effort to better meet your needs.

In addition to the summarized information below, CLICK HERE to see the full results of the survey.

CELEBRATIONS
Celebration #1: My student's school provides a variety of opportunities for parent and community input. (Avg. = 4.42)
Reflection/notes: This score increased from 4.13 last school year. This is a result of the intentional efforts of PIT Crew (staff and parents) and building staff to establish methods of gathering and responding to feedback.

Celebration #2: The school encourages parents to be involved.       (Avg. = 4.64)
Reflection/notes: This score increased from 4.37 last school year. Building staff (PIT Crew, PBIS-LIM) and parent PIT Crew have worked diligently to provide a variety of meaningful opportunities to involve parents in their child's education as well as remove barriers to parent involvement.

Celebration #3: My student's teacher(s) at this school is/are approachable and reachable.  (Avg. = 4.64)
Reflection/notes: This score increased from 4.37 last school year. Building staff (PIT Crew, PBIS-LIM) and parent PIT Crew have worked diligently to provide a variety of meaningful opportunities to involve parents in their child's education as well as remove barriers to parent involvement.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVEMENT (OFI)
OFI #1:  My student understands his/her learning goals.  (Avg. =  4.15)
Reflection/notes: Student goals is a new process for students and staff.  Staff recognize student goals as having a great impact on student achievement and will follow through on the below action steps.
Action Steps: Continue current student created goals with teacher, counselor, and principal support.  Goals consist of an academic, attendance, and home goal specific to each class and/or student. Building Leader in Me team will create a timeline for student goal implementation expectations to include staff professional development and parent communication and involvement.

OFI #2:  I receive effective and efficient communication from my student's school building.  (Avg. = 4.53)
Reflection/notes: Based on survey comments and consistent verbal feedback from families, Price will follow the below listed action steps.
Action Steps:  Administration will reduce the length of monthly office newsletters communicating priority information and communicating how to access other information (i.e. webpage).  Building improvement team, with input from all staff, will re-examine content of teacher newsletters/communication and come to consensus on minimum building-wide expectations for teacher weekly newsletters.

OFI #3: I know how well my student is doing in class.  (Avg. =  4.21)
Reflection/notes:  The scores from patron responses decreased from last school year.  Multiple comments were made, on the survey, stating that parents did not know how their child was progressing.
Action Steps:  Communicate to patrons, via PIT Crew meeting, office newsletter, and teacher newsletter how we communicate student progress at Price/District.  BIT develops consistent message. BIT, with all-staff feedback, come to consensus on what student work should be sent home (what and how often) - will have consistent building-wide expectations if possible.

Building Goals

Progress towards second quarter academic goals (literacy and math) will be sent in February office newsletter.

Student Progress

  • Mid-Quarter Progress Reports (4 per year)
  • Quarterly Progress Reports (4 per year)
  • Fall Parent Teacher Conferences (1 per year)
  • Student work (sent home upon completion at least weekly)
  • Classroom progress towards learning goals is communicated in weekly newsletters

Did you know your student has set individual goals in their classroom? Ask them about their academic and home goals and the action steps they have planned to reach their goals.
