It's officially Spring and the Prince George's County Planning Board has plenty to celebrate. This year marks the 90th anniversary of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission!  Watch out for a series of public events that will take place this summer.   Commissioner Bailey Receives Award from Association of the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH)
Prince George's County Planning Board Vice Chair, Dorothy F. Bailey was recently given the 2017 ASALH Council Award of Special Recognition by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH). Commissioner Bailey received this prestigious award during the organization's 91st Black History Month Luncheon on February 25, 2017. Bailey serves on the National Executive Council of (ASALH) and is also President of the Prince George's County ASALH chapter.  Kudos to Vice Chair Bailey!

  M. Andree Green Checkley Named Director, Prince George's County Planning Department
M. Andree Green Checkley was recently named the new Director of The Prince George's County Planning Department.  As Director, Ms. Checkley will oversee a professional staff charged with advising and working with the Planning Board, elected officials, and the community to shape land use planning, zoning, and economic development plans for the County. She succeeds Dr. Fern Piret, who retired as Director last Fall.
Ms. Checkley brings to the Planning Director position more than 20 years of specialized experience in the practice of land use law and policy development in Prince George's County, as well as considerable experience managing people, honed over the past six years in her role of County Attorney for Prince George's County. Welcome, Director Checkley!
 Commissioner Doerner Delivers Presentations on National Housing Issues
Commissioner William M. Doerner, Ph.D. will speak on  Monday, April 17, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at a joint event hosted by the Urban Land Institute and the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy titled Housing Markets and the Fiscal Health of US Central Cities.Commissioner Doerner will participate in a panel discussion about what has happened in the housing market and its challenges. The event will take place at the  Urban Institute, 5th Floor, 2100 M Street NW, Washington, DC 20037
Doerner also recently conducted a presentation for the National Association of Realtors as part of their REALTOR University Speaker Series on the  "Housing Markets and the Fiscal Health of US Central Cities" He also presented research from a national award-winning paper  to the American Real Estate Society Conference during their annual conference held April 4-8, 2017 in Coronado, California.

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission web family of sites: mncppc.org, pgplanningboard.org, pgplanning.org and pgparks.com is getting a much-needed makeover! We have redesigned the sites to be more user friendly with better search functionality. Please stay tuned for the launch of the new sites later this Spring.
Public Meeting Notice:  M-NCPPC 2018 Budget 
The Prince George's County Council will hold a public hearing on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. on the Prince George's County 2018 Proposed Budget for The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. The hearing will take place in the first floor County Council Hearing Room of the County Administration Building located at 14741 Governor Oden Bowie Drive in Upper Marlboro. Upcoming Prince George's County Planning Board Hearings 
The Prince George's County Planning Board holds meetings most Thursdays in the first floor County Council Hearing Room of the County Administration Building, 14741 Governor Oden Bowie Drive, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772 to consider planning, zoning, and subdivision matters. Join us as healthcare professionals share health tips and lead group walks at M-NCPPC locations throughout Prince George's County! Walking is good medicine. It is one of the best forms of exercise, and can help you lift your mood, connect with others, and lower your risk of serious health problems.
The program is a great way to stay in shape, enjoy the outdoors, and join other walkers who are interested in staying healthy and fit. Walk your way to health and wellness, and earn fun prizes along the way. No registration is required; just lace up your walking shoes and join us for these FREE community walks. Who We Are
The Prince George's County Planning Board, together with the Montgomery County Planning Board, make up The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). The Planning Board's full-time Chairman and four part-time members serve as citizen representatives for their communities in helping to plan, shape, and maintain livable neighborhoods and healthy lifestyles for residents and families in Prince George's County. The Planning Board directs the Commission's work in the County through the Prince George's County Planning Department and the Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation.
