SPONSORING A REFUGEE FAMILY
|
|
"for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me" (Mt 25:35)
YOU
Can Be Involved Supporting A Refugee Family!
Last year Prince of Peace led a funding appeal in support of outreach to Syrian refugees through the Minneapolis area synod of the Lutheran church. The effort led by PoP raised well over $100,000 to provide life saving and compassionate aid to these vulnerable and at risk children of God. But we are not done yet!
Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) is committed to engaging Lutheran Churches in deep and structured ways in the refugee resettlement program. This is not new to LIRS. As you may recall, in the 1970s, many Lutheran churches worked with resettlement affiliate partners to sponsor refugees and walked with them to successfully rebuild their lives and become productive citizens of their newly adopted homes. Prince of Peace was involved in this important ministry in the past. With the professionalization of the resettlement process, this volunteer avenue has been largely closed for some time and the goal is to revive it in light of current needs and circumstances.
Pastor Chad serves on the LIRS committee working on these important issues which is planning to test-pilot a national initiative to reach out and re-engage Lutheran churches in the refugee resettlement process. Prince of Peace will work with Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota (LSS) to be among the first congregations in the country to get this work started by becoming a Co-Sponsor community.
A Co-Sponsor congregation Partners with a refugee family who is just arriving in United States. The transition period that families experience during resettlement is extremely difficult. They are experiencing culture shock, grieving the loss of their home, family and friends, and adjusting to new requirements, while they try to learn how to navigate an entirely new system. Co-Sponsors help families feel more secure about getting settled in their new community. As a Co-Sponsor community, Prince of Peace will walk with a family from their arrival at the airport and throughout the first few months of this difficult time of transition.
If you would like to serve on the PoP Co-Sponsor team, let us know in the church office. An organizational meeting will be scheduled here at Prince of Peace with a representative from LSS and all those interested in participating will be contacted.

GIFTS FOR SENIORS PROGRAM
|
|
Gifts For Seniors provides donated new gifts to isolated seniors in Mpls/St Paul and the surrounding seven county metro area. In 2016 we are serving 4,700 seniors that were chosen and approved by 65 different social service agencies. The agencies select and personally deliver these gifts to their isolated seniors.
At Prince of Peace all items placed in our barrel between December 29th, 2016 and January 8, 2017 will be used as our start-up inventory for the 2017 season. A wish-list flyer on the outside of the barrel gives you suggestions of needed items. Re-gifting of new items and/or after Christmas sales are suggested to stretch your giving dollars. See www.giftsforseniors.org for more information.
Thanks,
Jo and Frank Fachman, 15 year Volunteers with this program.

The Quilting Team |
The POP Quilters send their THANKS to all who supported the December quilt sale, by the purchase of quilts or the donation of fabric, sheets or batting. It was our best sale ever! A special thank you to Diane Hasse for the beautiful professionally-finished quilts that she donated for the sale!Quilts that were left over were donated to the Alexandra Women's Shelter, the Veteran's Hospital and Home Free Women's Shelter
.
Proceeds from the sale will be used in the coming months to make quilts that provide warmth and comfort to those in need through various worthy community organizations.
We welcome anyone who would like to join us for a morning of fellowship!
You only need to know how to tie a knot or cut a square - sewing skills are not required. We meet at the church from 9 am to noon on the first, third and fifth Wednesdays of each month, September through May. We break midway through each session to enjoy a cup of coffee/tea, some sweet treats and conversation. We find working on these quilts to be a labor of love and we derive much enjoyment and satisfaction working with the lovely fabrics and pieced quilt tops, knowing that our efforts support a good cause.
If you're interested in more information contact

WELCOME TO PRINCE OF PEACE |

Welcome To Prince of Peace!
Check out our welcome video! This professionally produced video will give visitors to our website a glimpse of what we are all about at Prince of Peace. The video can also serve as a fantastic way to invite others to Prince of Peace. We bet that you know at least three people who are not active members in a local congregation. Take a moment and send them a quick email with the link to this video. We also encourage you to share the video on your own Facebook page. It is an easy and effective way to let folks know about the wonderful outreach and ministry happening at your church and to let them know that they are invited! |
