HEARTS AND HANDS FOR JAMACIA
|
|
Prince of Peace ha
s served in Jamaica for the past 14 years. Our main focus has been West Haven Children's home where we have bathed, clothed, fed and played with the children. We have also helped the teachers with school and other activities and helped complete many construction type projects at the orphanage and local community. We are looking forward to new adventures and opportunities to serve with our brothers and sisters in Jamaica. We will continue to need the support and prayers from our families and friends at home.
In 2017 10 people from Prince of Peace served at West Haven Children's Home for the physically/mentally challenged children and young adults where we helped with their Sports Day. The other weeks we put up a cement railing around the Faith Chapel's veranda, tiled the floor and painted the railing. Faith Chapel is in the Community of Copse where
we attend church while in Jamaica. We also started to hang mosquito netting over the beds of the West Haven children who are not able to move around. We will continue this project in 2018.
Prince of Peace is planning on attending three weeks in 2018 which gives everyone an opportunity to attend one, two or three weeks. Our dates for 2018 are March 3rd through March 24th. We will spend the first week at West Haven and are still in the process of determining our mission for the other 2 weeks.
I
f you are interested in additional information or attending, please contact Terri Revell at

QULITERS
|
|
The POP Quilters will begin their monthly meetings on Wednesday, September 6.
We suspend meeting as a group over the busy summer, but we continue to work on quilt tops individually until we meet again as a group starting in the Fall. We shop the thrift stores and garage sales over the summer for fabric or sheets used to make the quilt squares or backing. We can even use sheets that aren't perfect (e.g., bad spots or tears) to make quilt-top squares.
A huge thank-you for the material donations this past year from parishioners. We always appreciate donations of cotton or cotton/poly fabric or sheets (no knits, silky, microfiber or heavy fabrics please as they are more difficult to work with). These can be dropped off at the church office.
Since last September, we have donated a total of 164 quilts to various worthy organizations, including the Alexandra Women's Shelter, Home Free Women's Shelter, the Veteran's Hospital, Brooklyn Avenues for Youth, Camp Wapo, the Salvation Army Harbor Light Center and the refuge family co-sponsored by Prince of Peace.
We welcome anyone who would like to join us for a morning of fellowship, even if for a one-time visit!
We can always use an extra hand to help "tie" the quilts with yarn - sewing skills are not required. We meet at the church from
9 am to noon
on the first, third and fifth Wednesdays of each month, September through May.

LIBRARY NEWS
|
|
The POP Library has some good "reads" for you to enjoy.
Look for these on a display in the hallway near the library.
"Love On The Line" by Deeanne Gist features a Texan Ranger who is working undercover to infiltrate a notorious gang of train robbers and a rural telephone switchboard operator who is also an expert bird watcher. But repairing telephone and tangling with this head strong woman is the last thing he wants to do. When his stakeout puts Georgie in peril, he realizes more than his job is on the line.
"Angels In the ER & Angles On Call" by Robert Lesslie, MD is a two in one volume of true stories that are a reminder that hope can turn emergencies into opportunities and each trial into a demonstration of God's grace.
"The River" by Beverly Lewis is a story of two formerly Amish sisters that are
plagued by unresolved relationships when they return to the Amish community for their parent's wedding anniversary. The past meets the present as they yearn for acceptance and redemption. They wonder if they can face the future in the light of a past they can't undo.
"Shadowed By Grace" by Cara Putman is historical fiction about a newspaper woman sent to Italy to take photographs close to the first lines during WW II. But her personal motive is to find her father she never knew. She becomes involved with the Monuments Men effort to reclaim great works of art stolen by the Nazis during the war. However, she soon finds more than she ever imagined...in war, in love, and in God.
Come to the library and check them out!

WELCOME TO PRINCE OF PEACE |

Welcome To Prince of Peace!
Check out our welcome video! This professionally produced video will give visitors to our website a glimpse of what we are all about at Prince of Peace. The video can also serve as a fantastic way to invite others to Prince of Peace. We bet that you know at least three people who are not active members in a local congregation. Take a moment and send them a quick email with the link to this video. We also encourage you to share the video on your own Facebook page. It is an easy and effective way to let folks know about the wonderful outreach and ministry happening at your church and to let them know that they are invited! |
