From your Principal...
STM is truly blessed with generous families.  This generosity is shown in many ways.  Thank you to all our families for your support shown during the Christmas Season.  Whether you sent items for the Advent Giving Tree, donated to the PTO Teachers' Christmas Fund or kept the faculty and staff in your prayers,  we truly appreciate it.  Over the Christmas break some of our dads gave of their time and used their talents to help make repairs at the school. We thank Mr. Black, Mr. Bode & Mr. Taylor very much for their help!  Our children and school community as a whole are the beneficiaries of your hard work.   Again, thank you to everyone!

Reminder, as we enter the new calendar year, those families that will be applying for financial assistance for the 2018-2019 school year, please see the attached form for important information regarding the steps to apply and deadline dates. These dates must be followed in order to be considered for aid.

Please note, there will be no school on Monday 1/15/18 in observance of the Martin Luther King Holiday.  Enjoy your day off!

From the Clinic...
Influenza activity is very prevalent in Houston this month and that trend is reflected here in our school population as well. Just a reminder to parents that absences due to illness are expected in the elementary and middle school age student. There is no school work/testing/athletic commitment that should supercede the decision to keep your student at home if they are ill. Fevers greater than 100 degrees combined with muscle aches/pains, cough, nasal drainage and malaise should be considered valid grounds for absence. All students who have absence due to illness have additional time to make up missed assignments and tests upon their return to classes.

This is also a good time of year to make sure you have up to date contact information in RenWeb and that you have an emergency action plan in place so you can be reached during the school day if needed. When students are dismissed during the day due to illness parents need to provide pick up and transportation to home in a timely manner. Our Clinic does not have the space or ability to hold students until the end of the day.

Please reference the attached link for more information on children and influenza at cdc.gov/flu or feel free to contact the Clinic at mgleason@stmorenews.com.

Our PAWS Print...

Parents are leaving their  PAWS Prints all over STM !

Parents Active With STM continues to make their presence felt throughout our STM campus! Our community has benefited from the support of volunteers in so many ways, here's a short recap of what they have done so far this academic year:
  • Provided volunteers for student picture day, Oktoberfest, Grandparent's Day, Student holiday parties, student service projects , field trips and special activities.
  • Supported faculty/staff through faculty luncheons, World Series treats and St. Nicholas Day mementos.
  • Sponsored two Morning Coffee events for parents during morning carpool drop-off.
And most importantly, they have shown up with a generous spirit to make our community feel cared for, our teachers feel supported and our students feel loved!

Looking forward, STM will be hosting the Archdiocesan Middle School Science Fair on Thursday, January 25th. This event will host students and faculty from over 20 Catholic Schools to compete for the top honors in Science Projects/Education. PAWS will be assisting with the Morning Hospitality table and with coordinating lunch for the participants and their faculty.
Here's why you should consider volunteering to help with this event:
  • Great opportunity to showcase our school and students!
  • Get to see the quality of student work from throughout the Diocese.
  • Learn about Science Fair projects to serve as a resource to your own students.
  • Easy sign up, great people to work with, clear instructions and support from your PAWS Coordinators.
  • No experience necessary!
A Sign-Up Genius email will be going out to parents on Wednesday, 1/10/18, there will be early morning shifts and mid-day shifts to accommodate different work schedules. We would love to see a great turn out for this event!   Please feel free to contact Mary Gleason MSN, RN at mgleason@stmorenews.com if you have questions and/or interest, and THANK YOU again for your generosity and continued support of our community.

All STM parents are members of the PAWS community, check your email for announcements and information on how to get involved and support our school!!
