Come and learn how to assess students accurately and use assessments to promote student learning. Offerings in the series will help practitioners to administer and interpret the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE®). The training series is ideal for new educators wanting to learn new skills, and seasoned educators who would like to refresh their skills. 
 
This offering will cover basic skills for accurately administering the TABE ® ; maintaining test material security and integrity; explaining test results to students and other stakeholders; and utilizing test data to inform instruction. Participants will learn how to use TABE ® test scores for planning and delivery of instruction.

This offering is targeted to educators working with adult learners with diverse cultural backgrounds. The primary audience for the session is instructors of English as a Second Language, but all are welcome. Participants of this interactive course will increase awareness of their cultural competency, intercultural communication, and strategies for negotiating cultural differences with sensitivity.

This workshop is for educators who teach job search skills to adult learners. Participants in this training will learn strategies to assist job seekers in using mobile technology when job searching. 
 
Topics covered in the workshop include:
  • Apps for career and job search success
  • Social media for job searching
  • Media literacy and job searching
  • Mock interviews on smart phones
Participants are encouraged to bring their mobile devices to the workshop.

Instructors of GED® will learn effective strategies to improve learner performance on the GED® test. This all day workshop will cover topics that include high impact indicators across the four content areas, scoring on extended responses, and making math thinking processes visible. Participants will also receive updates on the GED® program. Lunch will be provided.

This offering is targeted to instructors and tutors of TABE, GED® Prep, or ESL who are interested in brushing up their digital skills to be more effective in teaching. This will be a hands-on interactive training session that will cover basic computer skills for adult educators.

Participants will learn how to:
  • Create templates for lesson plans in MS Word
  • Record attendance, grades, and learner progress using MS Excel
  • Design dynamic presentations using MS PowerPoint
  • Use cloud-based storage devices (Dropbox, SkyDrive, etc.)
  • Search and use materials from the internet efficiently and effectively.
Note: This training is designed for educators with basic technology skills.
