As the summer show season wraps up and we head into the final leg of the competition year, catch a recap of recent competition and a preview of what you need to know for the upcoming months and new competition year ahead. New Safe Sport training requirements for 2019
On August 27, 2018, the US Equestrian Board of Directors approved a rule change requiring that effective January 1, 2019, all US Equestrian (USEF) adult members with a Competing Membership must complete USEF’s Safe Sport Training in order to be eligible to participate in USEF activities.
It starts with an entry...and could end with a National Championship title

Top 5 Reasons for Professionals to Put the National Championships on the Calendar:
  1. Variety of sections ranging from 2’ hunters to 1.40m jumpers and age group equitation
  2. Each section consists of at least three classes, great awards and prize money, including a $10,000 Grand Prix class in each of the Jumper Sections
  3. Riders qualify based on zone points first, then national rankings, meaning more opportunity for riders of all levels to earn a national championship title (Click here for specific qualifications)

  5. Free VIP access for all competitors, trainers and families
Entries and non-refundable $50 fee are due Sept. 14. Only entered horses and ponies can be eligible to qualify.
The next big pony championship is happening this month!
The USHJA Young Hunter Pony Championships , will be held at the World Equestrian Center in Wilmington, Ohio, on September 30, 2018.

The competition, for ponies 7 years old and younger, will offer $18,500 across sections organized by pony age, and while riders must be juniors, sections are not further restricted by the age of junior competitors.
New challenges and rewards announced for 2018 WCHR Pro Finals & Pro Challenge
The 2018 USHJA World Championship Hunter Rider Finals will return to The Capital Challenge Horse Show , Oct. 1-Oct. 7 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

This year's WCHR Pro Finals will feature $10,000 in prize money, a new "Playoff" format, a possible wild card spot and the top four competitors from the first two rounds facing off each riding the same horses in a Final Four competition. Additionally, prize money for the WCHR Pro Challenge will double to $50,000, as announced by The Capital Challenge Horse Show, in recognition of the competition's 25th anniversary.
2018 Platinum Performance/USHJA Hunter Week recap
The 2018 Platinum Performance /USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championships o ffered more than $260,000 in prize money and crowned two champions after three days of competition.

Topping Round One of the 3'/3'3" Championship was Hunt Tosh on Douglas Wheeler's Bordeaux. Tracy Fenney and MTM First Dibs topped the field in Round Two, and riding away top honors in the 3'/3'3" Championship Round , was Patricia Griffith and Callie Seaman's Endeavor.

The inaugural 3'6"/3'9" Championship saw 43 Green Hunters compete head-to-head over two rounds of competition. Sandra Ferrell piloted Stephanie Bulger's Hemingway to an impressive win, earning 3'6"/3'9" Championship title .
The 10th annual Platinum Performance /USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship showcased the top Derby horses in the country, in arguably the best Derby Championship to date, and featured more than $300,000 in prize money.

Holly Shepherd and Helen Brown's Tybee took an impressive lead after the Classic Round , but 2017 Champion Victoria Colvin couldn't be touched in the Handy Round , finishing 16 points ahead of the field on Private Practice, owned by Brad Wolf, earning a repeat Champion title.

Enhancements coming to USHJA 3'3" Jumping Seat Medal for 2019
If you have junior clients currently competing in equitation and/or with goals of competing in equitation next year, make sure you're up to speed on the enhancements made to the USHJA 3'3" Jumping Seat Medal that affect point tracking and program additions, including a flat phase, for the 2019 competition year.
