SR 89/Fanny Bridge Community Revitalization Project Updates

Preliminary 2018 Project Schedule Construction will begin on May 1, 2018 (weather permitting) on the SR 89/Fanny Bridge Community Revitalization Project. The Central Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway Administration (CFLHD-FHWA) is the lead agency for construction, and Martin Brothers Construction is under contract to complete the work. Construction planned for May 1 thru October 15, 2018 (subject to change):   Complete new SR 89 realignment Construct new Truckee River Bridge, located east of the Caltrans Maintenance Yard along SR 89 heading into Tahoe City from Truckee Construct 3 new roundabouts Complete street improvements within the project area along West Lake Blvd. (SR 89) – new sidewalks, crosswalks, street lights, and street/trail signage Replace Fanny Bridge with sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides, including a new bridge rail that will match the existing bridge rail Finalize new and/or improved bike and pedestrian paths Drainage improvements Landscaping Install new Tahoe City gateway signage   The following work will is anticipated to begin in May: 3 roundabouts New Truckee River Bridge, located east of the Caltrans Maintenance Yard New SR 89 realignment Tahoe City Trout Statue dismantling Project completion date is scheduled for fall 2018.

This is a rendering (not an exact engineering design) of the new "Tahoe City Wye" roundabout with the Tahoe City Trout Statue depicted in the center of the roundabout, as a relocation option.

The Project Delivery Team*, along with North Lake Tahoe Chamber Executives, were unable to reach a reasonable agreement with Mr. John Betts, the creator of the  Tahoe City Trout Statue , to find a place for the relocation of the statue within the project area. Several meetings, site walks, and correspondences took place with the artist over the course of the past several years to try to ensure that the statue would remain as a prominent feature in the Tahoe City Community, keeping with the original intent from the 1970’s.   The public is going to notice the dismantling of the Tahoe City Trout Sculpture in the next few weeks (weather permitting). *   The Project Delivery Team is comprised of individuals from the following organizations/agencies: Tahoe Transportation District (TTD); Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA); Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLHD); Placer County; Caltrans; Tahoe City Public Utility District (TCPUD), and the United States Forest Service (USFS). About the SR 89/Fanny Bridge Community Revitalization Project Tahoe Transportation District has been the local lead agency for the project for over six years and will be through the completion of the project. Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLHD) is the lead agency for construction and design of the project. On October 3, 2016 Martin Brothers Construction was awarded the construction contract. Project goals include:  Improve pedestrian and cyclists’ safety Alleviate traffic congestion to improve transit travel times and user experiences Provide two safety routes from the west shore Make the “wye” area more inviting for shopping and dining Add street enhancements to the portion of “old SR 89/West Lake Blvd. that will become a local road Encourage economic development and revitalize the community Rebuild 89 year-old Fanny Bridge with sidewalks on both sides Improve reliability and connectivity with the new transit center Lessen emissions by a reduction in vehicles idling in traffic and sediment run-off from graded storm water treatment
