COMMENTARY: WATER DIVERSION IS THE RIGHT MOVE
Recently, the City of Racine submitted a water diversion application for Great Lakes water to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) on behalf of the Village of Mount Pleasant. The application will be the topic of a public hearing held by the DNR this week. Though the Village has been exploring the possibility of expanding water access to better serve current and future needs for quite a while, there is no secret that the impetus for this application is Foxconn’s investment in the community. As a community, we need to carefully evaluate and balance the great opportunity Foxconn brings and the impact it will have on our community, and this water diversion request is no exception.
