PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS
The National Association of Secondary School Principals and Prudential Financial are preparing to launch the 23 rd annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards for young people who have demonstrated outstanding community service over the past year. 

The Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals and the Virginia Student Councils Association ask you to encourage your middle and high school students who represent these values to apply! This is a chance to reward students who have made meaningful contributions to their communities, and highlight the role schools play in promoting community service.

Applications for the 2018 awards are now open to students in grades 5-12 who have volunteered in the past year. 
KEY DATES
November 7, 2017:  The deadline for students to submit applications.
 
November 8 - 17, 2017 : Participating schools and organizations review applications and select Local Honorees, then nominate them for state-level judging by certifying their applications online.
 
November 2017 - January 2018 : Schools present their Local Honorees and runners-up with certificates to recognize their exemplary volunteer service and hold them up as role models for their peers.
 
February 6, 2018 : Judges name the top middle and high school youth volunteer in each state and the District of Columbia as State Honorees and Distinguished Finalists.
 
April 28 - May 1, 2018 : 102 State Honorees attend national recognition events in Washington, D.C., where America’s top 10 youth volunteers of the year are announced at a special ceremony on April 30.
AWARDS
Local Honorees receive a Certificate of Achievement, provided by the program and granted by their schools or organizations. Qualifying Local Honorees also receive the President's Volunteer Service Award.
 
Distinguished Finalists receive an engraved bronze medallion, and other state-level runners-up receive Certificates of Excellence .
 
State Honorees receive an award of $1,000, an engraved silver medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip with a parent or guardian to Washington, D.C., for national recognition events.
 
National Honorees receive an additional award of $5,000, an engraved gold medallion, a crystal trophy for their schools or nominating organizations, and a $5,000 grant from The Prudential Foundation for a nonprofit charitable organization of their choice.
