"Wherever God's Spirit is at work in the world, people are drawn more deeply to love... beginning with God." - Brian McLaren, We Make the Road by Walking

Vacation Bible School is underway and it's a blast! On Monday morning, I got to witness around 25 kids sing, dance, and pray while coming together to experience "Hero Central," a superhero-themed VBS. My role? Tech crew! Somebody's gotta run the sound and that new-fangled Blu-ray player!

Witnessing young people, especially children, learn about God is one of the greatest joys in my life. There are few thing greater to me than to hear a child tell me God lives in her heart or to hear him lead a prayer. There is wisdom in the beautiful abandon of children's trust in God. What if we could get back there? Could be a good Pub Theology question for this Wednesday night at Herkimer!

Rev. Nate Melcher
Sunday Scripture Reading
Philippians 1:20-30 (NRSV)

Philippians is one of my favorite of Paul's letters. Romans gets a lot of the glory, and rightly so, yet here Paul gets practical and poetic pretty quickly.

I appreciate this notion of living a life worthy of Christ, that this is the place to stay firm (and to stay firm together, side-by-side, in community!). It's not about what town you grew up in or what sports team is on your t-shirt or what corporation hands you a check every two weeks. Paul is offering that your identity is to be of Christ. All of the rest is great. And, above all, you are of Jesus.

That's the sort of identity for me and for you that gets me excited for how people might engage each other. If we first see each other as loved and belonging to Christ, does peace come next?

United Methodist News
Even 100-year-olds need a good birthday party, and one United Methodist Church stepped up for three people to have one!

Did you know young people in Tonga are working with the church to bring hope and justice to all in their nation?

What would you say to spending time in your daily devotions while out on the river by canoe? This United Methodist pastor is doing just that.
