Public Allies is excited to announce that with a renewal of our national AmeriCorps grant and three new state AmeriCorps grants, we will open new sites this year in Metro Detroit, Michigan in partnership with the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and in Des Moines, Iowa where we will operate a state-wide site in partnership with the Iowa Community Action Association.
With these new sites, we will have 676 Allies serving in 23 communities starting in the Fall - diverse young adults with a passion to make a difference who want to turn that passion into a career in nonprofit and public service. Public Allies is especially working to increase service opportunities for young adults disconnected from meaningful education and careers. These Allies will help build capacity at over 500 local nonprofit organizations in their communities to enhance and expand their impact on educational, health, economic, and other needs. Every year, over 90% of our Allies have met or exceeded the service impact outcomes created by these community partners. And over 85% of our graduates continue careers in nonprofit and public service.
We are grateful to the Corporation for National and Community Service and to the state AmeriCorps commissions in Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin for their support. We are also thankful to the W.K. Kellogg Foundation for specifically supporting our expansion to Michigan.
We also join our partners at Voices for National Service to call for full implementation of the Edward M. Kennedy Service America Act to meet the huge demand from young people, nonprofits, and communities for programs like Public Allies. AmeriCorps works, and we are a proud member of the AmeriCorps network.
Please donate today to support the expansion of our program.
